Hi guys,

Good news, a little one on the way. Bad news....the shear destruction that the baby is going to bring is of nightmare standard given how much love has gone into my 7.5 PP GTI. Before anyone says it, I'm not parting ways with the car (though a switch to a banger was considered) and the inevitable is junior arrives in 7 weeks.

Does anyone have any advice for relatively safe-proofing the back seats? I've found a few covers on Amazon but would rather take advice from the experienced here. I'd rather cover the entire back in polythene (bit murder-esque!). Thought about getting a pet equivalent such as:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Petastical-Waterproof-Protector-Hammock-Non-Slip/dp/B01KDUAPT2/ref=pd_sbs_263_t_0/259-1208546-5255034?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B01KDUAPT2&pd_rd_r=334bbad9-b826-4109-9956-c5e74ca13d6e&pd_rd_w=dRNNE&pd_rd_wg=XhJzs&pf_rd_p=e44592b5-e56d-44c2-a4f9-dbdc09b29395&pf_rd_r=3XP7TJCV1Y39HNWK4PF7&psc=1&refRID=3XP7TJCV1Y39HNWK4PF7

Thanks all!

Rich

Why don't you protect the seats with Gtechniq stuff? Any liquid just lies on top and anything else just wipes off.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

Completely agree with you mate. When they are a baby you won’t really have a mess unless they are car sick. However when they are 1plus you will need a seat cover. Might I suggest capital seating for custom shaped covers that fit correctly. They are more expensive than the usual cheap ebay pants but trust me they are worth it. I have one on the CSS and it was £50. Fits fantastic and is well made.

Whenever baby comes along. Your car will come second. So don’t worry bout it.  Be worse if it’s three door

Congratulations!

As mentioned above your car will come second. I used to spend hours cleaning my car on weekends - a clean car is a distant memory now!

I have something very similar to this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07KQHSYHS?aaxitk=Wv9jRsA5at2Xr0pe04GtZg&pd_rd_i=B07KQHSYHS&pf_rd_p=f5d6d4d9-368b-4922-ab40-a7c5424fea8f&hsa_cr_id=2088588820602&sb-ci-n=asinImage&sb-ci-v=https%3A%2F%2Fm.media-amazon.com%2Fimages%2FI%2F71k3D2-b4mL.jpg&sb-ci-a=B07KQHSYHS

It is good, however it only protects the contact points between the car seat and the car seat fabric. If I had know you could get custom fitting covers for £50 I would go for that option!

One other thing you might want to think of is sun shades. My wife brought some of these:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Amteker-Pack-Car-Window-Shades/dp/B082XY55PW/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?keywords=car+sun+shade&qid=1583091386&s=automotive&sr=1-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExREJUMlpYTDFTNUhSJmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMTIxNjg5M0Y5UExFQzIwMlFFUyZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwNjUzNjQ2MlpUMDU5NVFOVjBEOSZ3aWRnZXROYW1lPXNwX2F0ZiZhY3Rpb249Y2xpY2tSZWRpcmVjdCZkb05vdExvZ0NsaWNrPXRydWU=

Avoid this one at all cost - horrible things that flap around all over the place. I could feel the car pulling to one side at motorway speeds with this thing fitted.

I would highly recommend these :

A little bit more expensive but worth it! Perfect fit inside the door, you can still open the windows to let air in. From the inside it looks OEM as well. Add's tinted look from the outside too - if that's what your into, you can get the same for the rear windscreen too!

Oh as above. Sun shades are a must. I got two custom fitted screens that fit perfectly in the back of her polo. Think the were 35-40. Been amazing.

Fantastic!!
Steve12345 - same as you, would spend hours cleaning the car over the weekend and even more time spent when the dog arrived a couple of years back. Fortunately the paint and seat protection is holding for now but thinking as soon as the vomit comes, it's time to take it up a few notches.

Also, really appreciate the car shade advice. Silly thinking that the tints would help but ordering the carshades.co.uk one now.

Thanks again!

st33ly - these look great. Thinking ahead as the car isn't going anyhere for sometime (5 door so should live for a while longer hopefully). Appreciate sending these through!

Cheers mcmaddy. seat protection is on but with the Art-Velour seats, might not stand up to it in the nooks/crannies. All in cover thought the easiest and if gets really bad, just incinerate it

I used these guys for the wife’s 5dr polo. I just checked £38 for the rear blinds and they fit perfectly. Even hold in place while the window is partly down. I had a look for the complete rear set for the Octavia VRS family wagon and £84inc delivery. So might get them for the summer.
