Excessive money spent on alloys I’m afraid I just couldn’t justify it with two kids at uni
It’s only excessive if you own them all at the same time.
If you buy one set at a time carefully and have lots of patience and diligence then sell the current set on after buying new ones it’s not expensive. It just takes plenty of thought, time and motivation.
I’m far from wealthy, just a regular guy with a very ordinary job.
Some people spend a fortune on tuning to levels they’d never approach on public roads, some people spend a fortune on cleaning products to p!ss into the wind trying to keep their car immaculate, some spend thousands on optional extras to wallow in, some smoke, drink, gamble, renovate houses, play sport, have expensive holidays... just because they enjoy it.
And some like slightly honing a mass produced car to make it look a little less mass produced and drive a little less that way too.
After many years of caring for terminally ill relatives whilst working all hours and trying to help bring up kids I then lost my mother at too young an age. I guess my mk6 was a release from that but it all makes you realise you have to live a little bit while you can and in the 11 years since I’ve lived a little bit!
The car mods were curtailed after a while, I got it out of my system then my father became very ill so I spent nearly a year commuting 500 miles a week initially as well as working and blah blah blah (kept me off the forums for ages back then too so that saved me a fortune in temptation and subsequent spending alone!)
So to hell with it, who knows how long I’ll be here for myself.
I‘ll buy the cars and do bits to them for as long as I can.
I’m sure nobody gives a rats arse about my life and times but the reason I wrote the reply was to say you’ve got to do what you want to do while you can. It doesn’t have to get too expensive with a bit of thought and all hobbies cost money anyway.
As an aside, one of the guys I work with has a couple of modded Toyota Supras and he’s not rich either. But he’s looking at a set of alloy wheels for one of them that cost about five grand. That’s plus tyres (355’s on the back?)
Kind of makes the few second hand sets of Golf alloys I’ve owned quite cheap
