BBS SRs obviously!

It was a pleasure meeting you rajb and hearing your modding stories! I told you I would miss this forum...

Biased I guess

Likewise buddy. Such a pleasure to do business with and yeah was nice chatting history. It’s definitely a forum hard to stay away from and 100% better than the other one you ended up on lol.

Excessive money spent on alloys   I’m afraid  I just couldn’t justify it with two kids at uni

It’s only excessive if you own them all at the same time.
If you buy one set at a time carefully and have lots of patience and diligence then sell the current set on after buying new ones it’s not expensive. It just takes plenty of thought, time and motivation.

I’m far from wealthy, just a regular guy with a very ordinary job.
Some people spend a fortune on tuning to levels they’d never approach on public roads, some people spend a fortune on cleaning products to p!ss into the wind trying to keep their car immaculate, some spend thousands on optional extras to wallow in, some smoke, drink, gamble, renovate houses, play sport, have expensive holidays... just because they enjoy it.
And some like slightly honing a mass produced car to make it look a little less mass produced and drive a little less that way too.

After many years of caring for terminally ill relatives whilst working all hours and trying to help bring up kids I then lost my mother at too young an age. I guess my mk6 was a release from that but it all makes you realise you have to live a little bit while you can and in the 11 years since I’ve lived a little bit!
The car mods were curtailed after a while, I got it out of my system then my father became very ill so I spent nearly a year commuting 500 miles a week initially as well as working and blah blah blah (kept me off the forums for ages back then too so that saved me a fortune in temptation and subsequent spending alone!)
So to hell with it, who knows how long I’ll be here for myself.
I‘ll buy the cars and do bits to them for as long as I can.

I’m sure nobody gives a rats arse about my life and times but the reason I wrote the reply was to say you’ve got to do what you want to do while you can. It doesn’t have to get too expensive with a bit of thought and all hobbies cost money anyway.

As an aside, one of the guys I work with has a couple of modded Toyota Supras and he’s not rich either. But he’s looking at a set of alloy wheels for one of them that cost about five grand. That’s plus tyres (355’s on the back?)
Kind of makes the few second hand sets of Golf alloys I’ve owned quite cheap
‘23 8R, ‘20 8CS, ‘19 135iX, ‘19 TCR, ‘17 Ed40, ‘17 GTD, ‘15 7R, ‘13 GTI PP, ‘11 GTI, ‘09 GTI, ‘98 Ibiza Cupra, ‘05 GTI, ‘06 Polo GTI, ‘04 GT TDI, ‘05 Fabia vRS, ‘02 GTI T, ‘03 Ibiza TDI 130, ‘01 Leon 180, ‘89 mk2 16v, ‘99 Ibiza TDI, ‘96 VR6, ‘98 Ibiza TDI, ‘92 VR6, ‘88 mk2 8v, ‘92 Polo G40, ‘91 mk2 8v, ‘89 mk2 8v, 205 GTI 1.9, ‘83 mk1 GTI, ‘80 Scirocco GTI, plus some others I’ve forgotten

Never a truer word spoken buddy.

I’m completely with you as my attitude changed when I lost my dad when I was 25. He was only 48 and after that I figured got to live and enjoy life as much as possible.

I work on the basis that as long as I’m providing for my family and my modding doesn’t get in the way of anything else then no harm and all good.

Again as you say I haven’t owned all my alloy sets at the same time and it’s a matter of hunting out the bargains and minimising the loss (if any). I’ve been fortunate to be at this for a long time and have made money too on mods when I’ve sold them.

Most alloy sets I had at one time was 4 though lol.

Anyway, ordered a new set of the BBS centre caps for the SR’s. Let’s see how they look with those once they arrive.

Similar story, some of life events make you realise you have to live a bit and do the things you may have previously cautiously put off for another time - If stick to that cautious mindset that time obviously never comes, its just pushed into the future

Very much the family man, ensure my family have all they need, gave up drinking many years ago and never smoked, so my vice has always to spend a little extra on my cars and know that if I had not I would be typing this now with some regret to the boring cars that selected over the cars really wanted - only did that once, and it truly was never again.

So never see me judging anyone for spending their ££ on what they enjoy,
Present - BMW 128Ti Alpine White, 18" Performance Tyres, Sun Protection Glass, Parking Assist, Heated Steering, Boston Trim, Split Folding Rear Seats, Electric Lumbar Support

Exactly that isn’t. Never want to leave this world with any regrets. Live it, enjoy it and make the most of it. It’s the memories we leave behind/take with us that make it all worth it.
