This is the first car I have had with a reversing camera so I just took what they said as that 's the way it is.
I can't fathom why though as you can see before the display goes blank again that the rear fog doesn't really add a significant glare.
I need to make a decision this year if I'm keeping the car and would need an MOT in August so I may enquire at the dealer again if i am, it may just be a strange quirk of the rear camera?

What would a hard wired dash cam have to do with your year camera? I've had a hard wired dashcam in mine for three years with no issues on the rear camera.

Don't think they fit highline cameras from the factory on 7s or 7.5s.
Mine has

Do the lines bend when you turn the wheel to show where your doing to end up
unless they started putting them in on 7.5s?

Maybe it's to remind the driver that the rear fog light is on unnecessarily? In thick fog when no one is following you, yes, all other times, no.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I have the highline camera but it was fitted afterwards by the dealers as I have the invoice from the previous owner. I also have a Thinkware F770 front/rear fitted too (not that it should make any difference as it doesn’t interact or tap into the camera wiring) and I’ll try it too to see what happens.

I can’t see why it would shut off when the fog lights are on unless it’s to force the driver into using all mirrors and looking out the windows etc instead. Who knows what’s going on in their heads when coding this stuff.

Hi guys.

Firstly thank you, your replies are really appreciated.

mcmaddy - I agree I cannot see any reason why my hardwired Thinkware Dashcam would have anything to do with the situation I'm experiencing but as they are asking questions about the Dashcam I am expecting them to use is as some kind of "get out" card. Not sure how I argue that with them if they do.

rajb - Thank you I would really appreciate what yours does in the same circumstances - what year/spec is yours?

Cheers everybody

zan -

My 17 plate GTI DSG does exactly the same thing and I think switching the rear fog off and back on again whilst the camera is engaged just fools it because my screen goes blank again after about 10 seconds.
VW dealer said it was normal but could not offer any explanation why it would be that way though

Where you say "my screen goes blank again after about 10 seconds" mine does the same but the reason for that is the camera is closing back in!!

None of it seems right to me.

Well the argument for the dash cam is that it's hard wired for the positive/negative feed and nothing else. And you can always unplug it to show it still does the same thing.

Will check mine in a little while but mines a 2014 GTI PP.
