« on: 14 November 2019, 19:53 »
Golf coming up on 1year old in December it’s on long life service so due 20000milles I understand the car has only covered 7000  is it worth still getting it serviced  or would  the dealer say it doesn’t require it at present  appreciate your thoughts

If 7,000 miles a year is pretty much your typical annual mileage then the time and distance service regime is more suitable for you; a service every 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever is soonest. Long life / flexible servicing is more suited to higher mileage drivers. The long life / flexible service regime is the default from the factory, but your dealer can change this to time and distance for you.

If you’re leasing your car though, I wouldn’t be too bothered if it was on long life servicing, even with your low annual mileage as you’ll be handing it back at the end of the lease.

Mine also is 1yo in Dec. and I've done about 8000 miles.  At present the car tells me the flexible service should be in 283 days.  I will be changing to time and distance and getting a 1yr service.
I did the same on the Audi I had a few years ago.

Mine is 9 months old and 7,000 miles. It’s telling me I need an oil change service in 1,500 miles or 35 days.
Seems a bit soon but that’s what it says on the screen.

Mine came up around 8k/12months as well.

For the OP, worth an oil change at 12 months anyway but no issues if you just do as the car says.

Mine's coming up to 6 years old (in April) and I'm just about to top 30,000 miles. I've still serviced annually despite my low mileage.

Edit - 5 years old lol.

Booked mine in for first service next week- 11 months old, 7.5k on clock and still another 1800 miles til service due.

Whether there is any long term benefit from servicing sooner than scheduled is anybody’s guess- I’ll let you know my experience in 10 years time!

One thing I haven’t missed is main dealer servicing ( first time in over 10 years for me). £216 for an oil change. Bunch of thieves.

Sounds a bit steep? Thought it was about £165/170 at my local JCT600.

Probably not. My last car, Audi A4, was kept on the longlife servicing schedule and averaged 8k miles per year. Had it for 11 years with no problems. Sold it to a friend at work who is still using it and it's 16 years old now.
