For me, debadging screams "Charva!" (what we in the North East call "chavs", as do wind deflectors and adding superfluous chrome trim.

The Golf suits red (except on the R).

When they get old/cheap enough, pretty much any performance car is going to become a charva car.

Yep, debadging can go both ways. You've got a cheap 1.4 but you don't want people to know, so you debadge, add body kit etc, tell everyone you have something more impressive.

Or, you don't want to be associated with a particular type of badge because of the stigma attached (in my case, GTI).

Ive always tried to avoid buying a red car as my father was a fireman so they were always called fire engine red and he just took the piss.  Had similar issue with 'primer' grey and 'reps car' white

Chavs round here seem to prefer white or grey.

I love my red car. I don't think I'm a chav :embarrassed:

Does the number of doors make a difference?

How the hell can anyone call a red GTI a chav car?

Ok, older generations of GTI maybe that litter housing estates in various states of disrepair and poor maintenance.

But a newish GTI a chav car? Not a chance. Maybe it depends on geographical location but where I live I’d say the GTI was one of the least chav hatches going alongside the A Class.
In fact going from some examples I’ve seen recently I’d say the model above it in the range is more prone to falling into chav hands.  :lipsrsealed: (and I’m a huge fan of both so long as they’re kept tasteful therefore definitely no bias)
