Although I'm running 19's, I think I can help…

I'm running 19x8.5 ET46 with 235/35R19 tyres, lowered on Eibach Sportlines. There were 2 places a tiny amount of rubbing occurred on...

1. The top of the wheelarch liner (where the screw holds it near the front of the arch - cured by the fender screw mod,

2. On the inside of the front wheel. at full lock on the outside wheel, mine (literally) just touch the arch liner. With ET50, the inner edge is likely to be 4mm further in than mine, so could rub more.

On an 8.5" wide rim, the sweet spot is about ET45 and a 235 tyre shouldn't really rub at that.

This is really helpfull, so potentially a couple of smallish spacers could sort me out.

Is this slight rubbing when steering when the car is stationary, or under suspension compression when cornering?
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

The rubbing at the top of the wheelarch liner was only when the suspension is compressed (IE, a dip or a speed bump).

Weirdly, if I steer the car at a standstill, it doesn't touch the arch liner but it sometimes (albeit rarely) does when moving - I'd guess due to movement in the suspension bushings etc.

Not fled an MOT with it - any rubbing would normally fail, and I don't go to any particular "dodgy/blind to mods" type MOT testing station.

Cheers guys, might look at an 8" solution then.  Not really keen on streched tyres, I'm not that young.

Was it a particular wheel you were looking at that’s only available in 8.5”?

A lot of 19” wheels come in this width for (assumed) structural strength but the majority of aftermarket 18” wheels are 8” wide.
Personally with an 18” wheel I’d want to keep it to an 8” width using a 225 tyre.
For me, and I’m no expert but have spent an inordinate amount of time experimenting with these things when I used to have too much time on my hands  I’d rather go 8x18 and mess about with offsets depending on what the wheel manufacturer offers.
Personal preferences for me on a mk7 are front ET between 40 and 45, rears between 35 and 45.

I reckon you'll have rubbing issues with the tyres fitted to those - with that offset, 245 width tyres will touch at my 2nd point described above.

If you stick to 235/40 and (maybe) for 5mm spacers, you should be okay (although no guarantees).

They will be genuine, partsdepot are an Audi dealer parts dept. I got a set of Scirocco “motorsport” wheels cheaply from them when I had my R.
The centre bore on some Audi wheels are larger than the VW 57.1mm but can be sleeved down.
