Cheers guys, might look at an 8" solution then. Not really keen on streched tyres, I'm not that young.
Was it a particular wheel you were looking at that’s only available in 8.5”?
A lot of 19” wheels come in this width for (assumed) structural strength but the majority of aftermarket 18” wheels are 8” wide.
Personally with an 18” wheel I’d want to keep it to an 8” width using a 225 tyre.
For me, and I’m no expert but have spent an inordinate amount of time experimenting with these things when I used to have too much time on my hands

I’d rather go 8x18 and mess about with offsets depending on what the wheel manufacturer offers.
Personal preferences for me on a mk7 are front ET between 40 and 45, rears between 35 and 45.
