Good spec. I thought about the R Line, but by the time i'd added all the extra kit i wanted the price worked out more expensive than the GTD that already had everything as standard.  :undecided:

Yeh i know but went for the look and a bit more economy, had a 14 plate GTD prior to the S1 and loved both those cars. It's a shame the stick the diesels get, i'll probably stick a pedal box on it great bit of kit.

I looked at an R-line but when I added a few options it was into GTI money. VW don't seem to have marketed the Golf R-line in same way as, say, the Roc R-line. You don't see many on the road. Probably because they don't want to take sales away from the GTI.

Congrats golfhappy and welcome back to being happy with a Golf!

But...

An S1 is a very desirable and fun car that’s pretty good on fuel still. You already own the S1 so the initial depreciation has had its hit already and it should be a much steadier depreciation from here on in. I’d imagine they hold their value very well to due to rarity.
Would the likely depreciation of the R-Line not massively outweigh any fuel savings, plus be a lot less fun to drive?
The R-Line is a handsome car, but it’s no S1.

No didn't pay list, the S1 is a cracking little car, well built fast. Had it for a year and a half fancied a change. Did look at the bargain 3 door GTD at GTI World and thought nah....i'll spec something up with most of the toys....had to have those darn led lights. Took early retirement as well so just wanted to knock the costs of running the car. When i take the XR2 out it is amazing on fuel.

The 7.5 R with the 7 Speed DSG is quite good on fuel if you're not going 'all in'. I'm sure the 7 Speed GTI is the same. Mid to late 30's mpg.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the R-Line, you might end up missing the power in the long run but I guess each to their own.

I'm looking at getting the wife a Leon FR 1.4t for work, they seem to get great mpg and can be had for great money second hand. The three door is a good looking car, shame the dash looks so bland.
