VCDS Coding - Warranty and other issues?
« on: 02 April 2018, 21:01 »
Hi,

Are there any potential warranty issues with changing coding settings in VCDS?

Things like stopping the headlight washers etc

I presume there are. But then, is this just things the dealer can change and will if you ask/pay them?

Its not a remap per se?!?

Presumably they can’t refuse warranty work if the programming has nothing to do with the faulty part, but I read somewhere that when they plug the car in to Germany it tells it if it’s had programming or a remap

I’m not convinced on the warranty issue. Mine just had a service and none of the tweaks were mentioned, the only changes I made were to turn off the pedal box and turn off audible locking.

Most of the changes just change the parameters in which certain components come on or off. I can’t thibk of anything that actually changes any component or stresses it any harder.

If you turn the headlight washers off it would now presumably fail it's mot but an issue for warranty.

With headlight washers you can set long delay time. Had no issue getting past MOT man when set to 2 seconds delay.

Delay shouldn't be a problem as you say but disabling it will mean a fail as technically it's inoperative.

Just about to say the same, also raised their frequency up to 10 sprays between activation.

Had mods done on mine since new and never had anyone query them, actually had a tech ask how to do the teardrop wipe on the front wipers.

I re-enable the headlight wash and stop/start before the Mot test, it takes a few minutes.

I imagine many on here never see an Mot test with a lease car?

Stop/Start isn't tested, mine has been deactivated for 3 years now. Headlight washers are on a 2 second delay, easier than deactivating just in case you need them.

Headlight washers actually make your headlights worse unless you've got a wiper to get rid of mess. Plus they make a mess of the front end of your car too
