Not a keyless car then.

No. But I think there's an option to have a start button in the cabin. I'm saying that if you have DSG, there's no point to having this button, as the car stops the engine by itself anyway, and turns the engine on when you move it into gear. Maybe that's true of manuals too? Not sure.

No it's not true and you can't start the car no matter if it's keyless or with key by just putting it into gear. If yours does this then it probably shouldn't.

I was going to say that it makes absolutely no sense for a car to start if put in gear with the DSG.

Also why anybody would think this is a good idea is beyond me!

Agree, thought it was a WUM. How dangerous would that be?? There has to be a physical intent to start the car in P whatever key/push button.

Looking at OP other posts it sounds like it's the start stop function he's talking about.

Even if this is true (and I wouldn't know as I'm keyless) you've still gotta put the key in and turn it half way which is more hassle than pressing a button and I don't have to worry where my keys are. Plus you have the added benefit of just tapping the handle and walking away.

Does the push start button not need you to put the key in? I thought it was something you could order even without keyless. If so, then it's a moot point anyway.

Just confirmed that you can't order a push button start on its own without keyless - comes with keyless only. So My valuable advice is no use at all. Sorry!

No it's not true and you can't start the car no matter if it's keyless or with key by just putting it into gear. If yours does this then it probably shouldn't.

Why shouldn't it? What harm can it do? The car won't move as you had to put your foot on the brake to move it into gear.

The car starts itself without even moving any lever if the car stopped the engine in traffic and the car in front moves off - in both that instance and the thing I'm talking about, you've got your foot on the brake anyway, so you're not going anywhere.

You've got the entire thread completely wrong. The whole point of keyless entry is to have the key in your pocket as vwjap has said. You're going on about the car starting when you put it in gear which it won't do unless you've actually turned it on in the first place. Once you're away and driving and under start stop conditions then yes the engine will stop and then restart when you touch the accelerator. You don't have keyless so you need to put your key in the ignition to turn your car on unless I've missed something!
