Just put the DSG lever into drive. It'll start the engine if need be!

not if you have a button, the key is in your pocket/purse/Center console

Not quite sure what you are trying to say but, as said, you need the ignition on. To achieve that, you need to press the button without your foot on the brake. Even then, if you pull the dsg lever back, the engine will not start. Just to close the loop completely, the dsg lever will not move from park without the ignition on.

Is this a windup, or is it you who have been woundup? 😃

Just a guess, but I'd say he's referring to the point where stop start has kicked in.

Could be wrong though, it's been known.

Not a wind up. Ok I missed a couple of details

So yes, if you stick the ignition is on (not sure what that means these days - but in the position where the entertainment and dials come on), and yes if you stick your foot on the brake first, then you don't need to turn the key to start the engine.

It's a small thing really, but it's one less thing to do when you want to head off, as you have to stick it in gear anyway.

What does the start button do except replace the "turn the key to start the engine" thing? If that's all it does, then what's the point of it in a DSG, as you don't need to turn the key to start the engine.

My 2016 GTI with DSG does not do this.

Anyway, I still don't get how or why you are saying that the starter button is superfluous. You have to push it to turn on the ignition, or start the engine - period.

Somehow, I still think you're winding me/us up! What car have you got that does this?

Ours is a 7.5 GTi PP from last year with the 7 speed box.

What I'm saying is that our car does this:

Key in ignition, turned to "on" (so dials are working) -> Foot on brake -> Move DSG to D or R -> Engine turns on without turning key.

Maybe someone else can try it from the same age of car?

It might need the stop/start enabled (I thought that's on by default when you first start) and maybe our car had been left in "eco" mode - not sure if it does it in other driving modes.

But it's real.

That's what I was assuming. I think what the OP meant was if you were considering a car with DSG transmission and wanted Keyless to get you a starter button, he's saying you can start a non-keyless car without having to turn the key in the ignition past the ignition point. So long as the transmission is in Drive, apparently the engine will start without having to turn the key further ?
