OK, I know this seems a bit anal, but as I understand it my new GTI will come without a top battery cover (the felt overcoat that goes around the battery). Seems VW dropped this from 040.2017 to the modified one without a top cover, leaving the battery totally exposed and the engine bay looking sort of unfinished ?
I know it seems to serve no real purpose but I do like the neatness that the top cover gives (if still not a nice as the older hard plastic units with a detachable top lid that used to be fitted to MK5 Golf's and Scirocco's). I was wondering about the possibility of fitting one of these when it turns up, but then I realised that you can't just slid it down over the battery, you need to remove the cables from the battery terminals to allow it to go underneath.
That is my question - if the battery terminals (both positive and negative) are removed for a couple of minutes to fit the cover, will I be left with a whole world of warning lights and issues due to the battery disconnection ? Anyone retrofitted on of these ?
