Swirl marks from dealers
« on: 25 March 2018, 23:09 »
Has anyone else had swirl marks inflicted on their car by dealers? They’ve only washed mine twice but it looked awful under the sun today. Shameful at only 5 months old.

And on that note can anyone recommend a dual action polisher? I’ve never needed one in the past but lesson learned the hard way that VW dealers can’t wash cars properly!

Unfortunately very common. The only way to prevent dealers inflicting swirl marks on your car is to instruct them never to wash it.  And get some Do Not Wash hangers like these.

Recommendations for DA polishers. Can’t go wrong with a DAS6 Pro to start out with. Takes both full size pads and spot psds so very versatile. http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing-machines/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/das-6-pro-dual-action-polisher/prod_673.html

Look at one of the complete kits.

The DAS above is great and will definitely do the job. In terms of polish, I recently used the Sonax Profline Perfect Finish. I found it broke down readily with just a few passes, but was enough to deal with any light swirls. It also left a great gloss and the residue wiped away easily.

I have bought a DAS6 Pro a few months ago but haven’t even used it yet.

Need some instruction on how to use. Which videos or tutorials are best to watch for a quickie bit of guidance.

Mine are always under strict instructions not to wash the car and I make sure I actually see them write it on the job sheet.

No they don’t sell them.  But you can get similar online.

Make sure you instruct the dealer not to wash the car too, get it marked and highlighted on the dealer worksheet, then use the hangers.  Before hangers used to just write on a big piece of cardboard and stick it across front seats.

I'm in a similar position barring the fact that I haven't bought one yet  But it is very high on the to do list

I've been watching junkman on youtube, he does tend to repeat things a lot but he does keep it simple and is very encouraging. Only obstacle so far has been that he said not to polish outside - I've no choice on that.

Problems with polishing outside are few. Obviously avoid direct sunlight. Make sure the section you are about to work on is dust free. It's not as easy to see your results outside either. I like to turn the garage lights off and use an LED light shone from different angles to inspect progress.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
