WLAN for Carnet
« on: 08 March 2018, 08:40 »
Hi all. Been looking over on another forum and they mentioned that if you had an Android phone (which I do -a Galaxy S7), that you can download an app called "Tasker"  which can automate all sorts of actions.

What I'm after is being able to turn on the mobile hotspot on the phone automatically when the phone connects to the car bluetooth system, and then turn off automatically when it disconnects from the bluetooth system. This would then enable me to have not only the car-net services, but also Google Maps / Streetview and dynamic traffic information when on the move, without having to manually think about turning the mobile hotspot on for every trip.

Someone did try to explain how to do this but it was a bit complex with some coding. Is anyone a bit of a phone genius and can break the steps down in to simple blocks that I can understand please ?

I've built a quick macro like you wanted, not tested it yet... will give it a go.

Have a feeling the problem will be that in later versions of Android things like hotspot toggle and airplane mode toggle are not allowed by Android any more...

But lets see - its a great idea btw!

E-robot works... Mind you car net didn't connect but the hot-spot comes on with the car and off again when you turn it off. No idea why carnet didn't work... It is flakey

I'll have a go with e-robot then as macrodroid wouldn't turn on the hotspot - it turned it off when I stopped though!

Like I said, I tried the Macrodroid program you referred to, added a couple of quick macros - one to turn on the wireless hotspot when it connects to my specific car Bluetooth, and one to turn it back off when the Bluetooth disconnects. Works great.

Tried it with Carnet - all good and with on line traffic on the Navi maps and Google earth overlay and they all work as well. Terrific app.
