my problem is that car net just isn't connecting when my hot-spot is on... Why I don't know!

Like I said, I tried the Macrodroid program you referred to, added a couple of quick macros - one to turn on the wireless hotspot when it connects to my specific car Bluetooth, and one to turn it back off when the Bluetooth disconnects. Works great.

Tried it with Carnet - all good and with on line traffic on the Navi maps and Google earth overlay and they all work as well. Terrific app.

Good stuff and glad it's working for you as it's a great idea. It must be an android version thing though as Fred flagged... I'm on 7.1.1

Try E-robot... That does work without later android problems... Toggles my WiFi perfectly

I've tried E-robot and it does toggle the hotspot and then my car connects but it doesn't allow an internet connection (carnet says no data connection) - it's as if it does half a job... creating a hotspot manually provides an internet connection no problem.

I've looked at Tasker too which is a complicated app but it suggests rooting my phone to make the hotspot work and I'm not sure I want to go there to be honest.

Hmm, don't know why mine is working fine with Macrodroid then. Been working perfectly for the best part of a week.

I've even added a second set of Macro's to enable the wireless hotspot in the Wife's Polo Blue GT as well, and like my car, that works perfectly as well.

If it makes any difference I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S7 (running Android Nougat 7.0) - un-rooted. My head unit is the Discover Nav Pro (MIB II) with the supplied firmware from 2016 - 0343

Yeah its weird. The hotspot (the one I use manually), comes on but carnet doesn't connect.

I've tried turning the hotspot on manually, then connecting my other phone to it and it works just fine. I can surf the net.

As Sooty seemed to get MacroDroid working, I'll try going back to that.

I have a few mins to go play right now, so will report back.

Nope I can't get carnet to connect to anything. Have factory reset carnet and wlan, still won't work. Carnet fault I assume

Cheers Fred but how annoying eh! I'm not sure it's Carnet for me though as I've ran the macro at my desk and tried to connect my other phone to the hotspot and it doesn't have internet either. But run the hotspot manually and my other phone can access the internet no probs...

Sootchucker - would you mind having a look to see which version of Android are you running please.

Andy,

As I said earlier, my S7 is running Android Version 7.0 (Nougat).

If it helps, here is the macro list from my MacroDroid. The first two are for the wife's car and the lower 2 for my GTD
