Passenger Door wont open from inside
« on: 02 March 2018, 21:41 »
Hello all,

After a few years break I have another golf on the driveway, a 65 plate GTD.  Unfortunately after driving it over 100 miles home I've discovered that the passenger door doesn't open from the inside   Works fine using the external handle.  Its booked in to be sorted, just wondering if this is a 'common' issue or anyone had this before?

Half tempted to strip the door card off and see if its just the that the cable has detached.

You sure the child lock isn’t on ?

There’s a slot where your key goes in on the trailing edge of the door - put your key in and turn.

I never thought to check - its the front door so assumed there wouldn't be such a thing.

I think this is a feature of the car.Had it on my Ibiza TDI.You have to pull the release lever twice for it to open from the inside.
Just checked my manual and that's what it says!. Hope it works.

If it's not opening at all from the inside, it will most probably be that the cable has become detached from the internal door handle. This often happens when the door card has been removed and hurriedly re-fitted when changing the glass, as they are a bit of a fiddle to get back on. It may have had a new window. Check for shards of glass in the drain holes in the bottom of the door.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

full marks to dubber86, took off the door card and the cable was detached, clicked it back on and all is well.  Easy as pie.

Glass looks to be original with no signs of broken glass so must have been accessed at some point in the past and not put back together.  At least it was an easy fix
