GTI and annoying buzzing at 3k
« on: 30 January 2018, 20:12 »
Hi,

My brand new GTI has a seriously annoying buzzing noise at about 3,000 RPM coming from the glove box area.

It only happens in sport mode and it has to be medium to high throttle.

I found a few things about this on Google and there was mention of this being related to the sound actuator thing and there is a possible DIY fix.

Does anybody know about this, or the actual fix?

I don't really want to go to the dealer in case they end up taking the dash apart.... which will clearly never be the same again.

I would start investigating the well written about soundaktor rattle.

Ah thanks.

Using the word rattle, rather than buzz has brought back a lot more useful things.

This seems to have been going on since about 2014. What a joke they have not fixed it on the 7.5 !

I think it affects enough for it to clearly be a know problem, which should have gone on the request for change list on the face lift.

There are numerous people saying they had it fixed/replaced under warranty. Which will have been at cost to VW, so they had a vested interest to fix it. Especially as it looks to only need rubber washer and no other modifications.

I leave mine set in comfort for engine sound I don’t think it sounds particularly great. Prefer listening to the exhaust!

Sounds like a simple switch off with VCDS! Why anyone would take bits apart when you can simply turn the sound off is beyond me especially as it sounds like taking the wipers off is a big hassle.

There are two sorts of Soundaktor noise:

1) The Soundaktor itself doing its designed thing, love it for hate it

2) It coming loose and bouncing around like a large pebble in the glovebox.

BTW as for liking to listen to the engine noise... I've turned my GTD engine noise to Eco just to remove more cabin noise. Remarkable how much less noise there is. Now I can be much calmer and drive easier. Thanks whoever it was on here that suggested "road noise" was likely 75% soundaktor even in normal mode...
