Ceramic Coating

Get your car detailed by all means, get it machine polished (to a high standard) and it will look great even with nothing else applied, the shine comes from the prep not the coating. I've had a few cars done with ceramic coatings inc Gtechniq and I won't be getting it done again, I don't think they offer a great deal more than a regularly applied wax or sealant. They claim to offer a lot but deliver little in my experience.

Well I've got the gtechnic ceramic on mine and it's excellent. I think a lot had to do with who has applied it because done wrong then you won't get the results you want. Makes washing so much easier and bird droppings come off with ease leaving no marks, again the method used to remove said droppings is the key.

One of the first things I did was apply our new Igneous Quartz 9h ceramic paint coating to my new GTI.

As others have said a correctly applied ceramic coating will make cleaning and up-keep easier, they should also increase gloss levels and provide UV and chemical resistance as well as being super hydrophobic.

After doing the usual polish & seal etc for 20yrs I decided enough was enough & got G-techniq Black serum applied by an accredited detailer near to where I am...

3yrs on & car still looks great...

I don't have to polish it & don't have to apply loads of sealent...yes I still have to foam & wash it (merino mitts for main body) & yes I still have to use tar remover on very stubborn spots.

BUT everything comes off way easy, even the stubborn tar bits, no scrubbing, just spray on, leave for a min, MF cloth wipe off.

Yes I got the evo2? water replant top coating on the top which wears off, so I just top up with their 2cv? spray on stuff & wipe with MF cloth.

Everything is just so much easier & requires way less scrubbing, & the car has a clean new look more often than I had using the traditional polish & sealant method..

Yes I still have to apply various GT coatings to the mudflaps, black plastic, & alloys, but again, not as often as the trad stuff.

The point being you get the surface clean, shiny & free from scratches (using cleaners & polishes etc)...then you seal it to protect the surface & preserve the finish....the ceramic stuff does a better job of this than trad sealants...

Yes my Tungsten silver might have a higher shine if I used several layers of top end polish & sealants & loads of time every year, but it currently looks way better ATM than factory & is very shiny....

I'm in Solihull but I'd have no problem going up to you. Depends how long it would take to do the car and that would depend on what you would recommend doing to it.

I'll PM you. Time wise it depends on the prep as in if it needs any paint correction.

I did this at the weekend but didn't do full machine polish but still about 5 hrs work.

I've had both my GTI and R professionally detailed and a GYEON ceramic coat applied to the paintwork. It is very expensive but worth every penny if you get the right person/company to apply it. Probably too far away for you but hey ho I always like to give my detailer a plug as he does such an outstanding job

I used to be a GYEON dealer many years ago when they first appeared in the UK market. Good product, and Richards (RGK) work is highly regarded.
