If you've got a VW SD card then you don't have a Nav Pro you have discover media, they are different systems.
I mentioned a few posts ago that I didn't have the Nav Pro.
I thought we were talking about updating maps in general. If not, my mistake (as usual) :embarrassed:
No probs, was just with me saying that the pro download wasn't working that's all.

I downloaded it directly to the Vw sd card.
It took forever but worked fine.
File downloads but won't extract. Keeps saying file is corrupt. Mines on a pre FL GTi so has buttons but file is the same on both.

i did it the same way straight to the sd card, mine wasn't a vw one but all worked fine.
mines the pro though i think..

Thought I might upgrade my maps since I haven't done so since I bought the car in Sept 2016, two questions:

1) Is it not possible to use a 32gb or bigger usb flash drive instead of an SD? The car has a usb port so I'd imagine it should be a usable source for upgrades. I have downloaded the maps in my workstation which lacks any SD card adapter so it's a bit of a pain moving the maps to a laptop only to have access to an SD port.

2) Strangely enough, out of the 25 or so gb of the entire download, the MIB2 folder is just 4.27gb. Can I just copy that to my SD together with the .md5 file and attempt an upgrade that way? Can't understand why the MIB1 data would be 5 times larger unless there's been some error during unzipping...

PS. Mine is a MK7 Discover Pro but I believe the answers to those questions are the same for the 7.5

You can't use a USB key, it has to be a SD card - it will only look for updates in the SD slots.

Yes, you can strip the MIB2 folder out, but keep the file in the root directory (if you look there are 2 folders and a file, the file is the bit you need to keep)
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

Ok, so MIB2 folder and .md5 file copied in an SD, that's less than 5GB, shouldn't take that long.

I would be interested to see if this works; I have copied the full file once manually and I don't fancy doing it again in the near future.

I very much doubt it will work properly. You need everything that's downloaded to be on the SD card not just parts of it. The map data is the same for mib1 and mib2 so if you don't have the mib1 folder you'll probably not be updating the maps. Interesting to see what happens though.

What you say kind of makes sense in the way that the file sizes (if actually independable between MIB1 and 2) don't add up. How can MIB1 be 19GB and MIB2 only 4.5??

Fredgroves seems to believe it will work though so I'll give it a try. I doubt you can brick a Discover unit with an incomplete SD card (hopefully)

Lets put it this way, when I removed the MIB2 from it when I had a MIB1 NavPro on my last car.... it worked just fine.

I wonder if the size difference is simply that the MIB2 system supports compressed maps? There is quite a difference between MIB2 and MIB1 in many respects... more than meets the eye, which is why you could never update a MIB1 device to support App Connect etc.
