VCDS Errors Signs of Tuning box??
« on: 04 November 2017, 22:17 »
I scanned my sisters used GTI 34k on the clock and 2 years old that she just bought from VW. Are these codes a sign that its had a tuning box? or that there was a fault which may have been fixed but the dealer never cleared the codes? I have cleared them out to see if they return.

I would say no. The errors I got on my gtd were boost sensor errors. Has your sister bought the car from a VW dealership? If she has then ask them to see if any warranty repairs have been done.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

Could well be..

These faults can occur when a remap or piggyback box have been removed...I have seen similar on other VAG cars when one has been removed.

I'd print of the codes & write a letter to the dealer (to put it all in writing) & state you want reasons why these are there & them to put in writing that there is no long term problems...

Yes it could be "false" errors & genuine, but considering they are all in the Engine module & the sensors which usually are used for data acquisition for remaps & piggybacks...I'd personally like to cover my back as if it has been tuned you have no idea what tune, good or bad..& if any long term problems..

Where would you stand on that then?

If I've bought a brand new GTI and tune it, my warranty maybe void on components stressed by the tune (yes, we've talked about it a million times)

But that's not the case here..

In this case, its a two year old second hand car, Das Welt and all that.

Someone else has tuned it previously, where do I stand on my warranty and really, should I be highlighting that fact to my dealer because they are hardly likely to do anything but go "oh yes, so your warranty is now void, because it was YOU that tuned it"

Personally, I'd STFU and hope nothing goes wrong, either that or take it back under the whatever days return policy.

It came from a VW dealership, so it could be there was something that was faulty and it was fixed or it has been previously tuned. It was bought from that dealership and fully serviced by that dealership 4 times and only had the one previous owner. It is a nice tidy example too
