Resonator delete
« on: 03 November 2017, 10:48 »
Seen this from Awesome GTI as interested in little more noise over stock.

https://www.awesomegti.com/shop-by-car/volkswagen/golf-mk7/034-motorsport-res-x-resonator-delete-golf-mk7-gti/

Quick search on YT and seems to be a few videos showing improvements in sound.

Sure I've seen a few people mention they've done this on here but don't seem to see any feedback or comments about how it sounds?

Cheers

I have looked into the resonator delete quite a bit and there seems to be many mixed opinions there is a noticeable difference in sound but many do say that it also introduces drone at certain speeds so it is indeed quite hard to gauge.

My wife had a Milltek cat back exhaust on her S4 and later had the two resonators removed and it made a huge difference to the sound. Granted it was a V8 but it was really loud and was able to set alarms off on some older cars.

I once put a race can on my bike and for about a couple of days it was a laugh. Then the noise started to grate and I stuck the old oem one back on. That was just my bike toy, not the thing I spend my day trapped inside. I think extra noise is something I could live without...

I had the resonator removed from a spare I bought and it definitely makes a sound difference, a lot nicer than the Soundaktor. Cant say I've noticed much in the way of drone, only in uphill under heavy load conditions.

So I had it done to my original exhaust too and have the spare up for sale on ebay and in the Classifieds on here.

Guess each to their own! I wouldn't have a bike again with a std exhaust. Cars are different, as like you say if it's an everyday tool you don't always want the extra noise on certain journeys - I think that's why the factory switchable exhausts are so good. For me, the GTI is just a bit too quiet and lacks the noise that a fast hatch should make.

I've had an email from Awesome GTI and sounds like it's reasonably straight forward to fit although some cutting involved. Might do a little more research before ordering.

I've never had a bike with a standard exhaust. I even had just a coke can on my GSXR7/11

My wife has been driving the GTI. When the car starts, the rumble is really noticeable inside the house. Then I notice the sound again as the car moves off. Then again when it is accelerating down the road.

When I hear the sound, I don't think, "wow, that really sounds like a sporty car!" I think to myself, "I'm too old to have a car that sounds like a boy racer!" :embarrassed:

Has anyone figured out if the Performance Pack exhaust generates more rumble. I certainly don't think my car needs any more exhaust noise. But everyone different.

I'm with you, nothing really wrong with the sound of the standard exhaust to my old ears.
I remember thinking the car was a bit muted when I first got it but when I went into the car park beneath my local Tesco and opened the windows, I was pleasantly surprised by how good it sounded.
Not as good as a MK 5 GTI but good all the same.
I'm 54, so boy racer/dickhead sounds aren't what I'm after
