For me, the GTI is just a bit too quiet and lacks the noise that a fast hatch should make.
My wife has been driving the GTI. When the car starts, the rumble is really noticeable inside the house. Then I notice the sound again as the car moves off. Then again when it is accelerating down the road.

When I hear the sound, I don't think, "wow, that really sounds like a sporty car!" I think to myself, "I'm too old to have a car that sounds like a boy racer!" :embarrassed:

Has anyone figured out if the Performance Pack exhaust generates more rumble. I certainly don't think my car needs any more exhaust noise. But everyone different.

Yes, start up is quite loud outside my std GTI, can't imagine it's any different to PP car but I'd say its very subtle and not really loud/shouty as current performance cars go. I guess that's why lots of people buy the Golf. Having had mates pop round recently including an RS6, RS3 (this is probably one of the best sounding engines sub £50k), new M3, M4 Competition, C43 Coupe and a rather lucky mate who has an Aventador SV, the Golf sounds almost hybrid like.

Maybe I just need need some friends with 1.0 cars instead!

BCS do a Res delete for the R, with the addition of the helmholtz resonator you get a great sounding exhaust without the drone.

Had mine on my R since the start of the year and one of the single best mods made to the car, not cheap  mind but you get what you pay for.

I'd say most people buy a 30k Golf because they don't have upwards of twice that money to spend on a car.

Have you thought about one of these?

That's quality Fred but a complete waste of money as the GTI already has one fitted as std, its a call a Soundaktor.

Ps If you like the noise then that's great for you. Nothing to do with how much you can or can't afford. Not sure why you're commenting on a thread that's about making more noise though. You're happy with the standard noise so not sure you'll be much help on this one.

Thats an external sound box, not an internal one.... like the old Sport and Sound you used to be able to get on a GTD :D

I remember seeing one on Pimp My Ride, a Pinto with a V8 sound.

What's the thing that's piped into the car in Sport mode these days? Thought that was Soundaktor?

I have just this weekend had the resonator removed from mine and I'm happier with the car now. Had been looking at loads of videos on youtube and decided to pull the trigger. The garage made a clean job of it and I retained the resonator in case I didn't like it and wanted to swap back. That said, I wish I'd done it sooner tbh - a great improvement for the money!

No drone at M'way speed but is noticeably louder above 2500rpm and this makes the DSG pops more pronounced. It's in no means obnoxious IMO but I did come from a GSXR600 with an Akrapovic exhaust system!

Friend of a friend had it done on his VRS and it sounded great but his was a manual.
