I hate to see these threads.
Sorry to hear about the break-in Dave, as others have said, thankfully nobody physically hurt but the aftermath isn't good mentally.
It'll all get sorted eventually and lets hope karma catches up with the perpetrators.

Thanks again everyone for the comments offering support and advice - really is appreciated

Still waiting for local plod to attend but did get a call from control saying that they were struggling to get someone out to take the details.

Locksmith has been out to fit a temporary lock on the back door but will defo be insisting on an ABS lock when they come in the week to fix it up properly.

Just tried to contact GAP insurers and guess what... "please call back on Monday during our office opening hours..." Bah! But thanks for the advice Mark V GTD

Yes,sorry to hear about the break in Dave.As you say, the toughest part is the intrusion into your house.I think they used to call these people 'creepers'.It would certainly give me the creeps knowing someone or some people had been in my house while i slept.
Car can be replaced but it's not so easy with your mind.
Just checked your MOT record (i'm nosy like that).Car was one of the lowest mileage ones i've ever seen for the year.
I think we all need to be proactive rather than reactive when it comes to scumbags these days.
Hope it all works out ok for you.
Current: Golf GTD MK7  3 door manual carbon grey.

Yeah, quite l low mileage and well looked after. Sometimes you think to yourself, 'what's the point?' when something like this happens. LOL, just wished they'd have done this 4 weeks ago before I paid out on getting the drivers seat repaired - could've said me a few bob

On another note I got some online insurance quotes for a new GTI and they have increased by a whopping 130%

Whew that is a hike! Do you think that's just down to the theft or a mix of general increase and a quote for a newer model? As I said for me I've ended up paying about the same ...was with Lloyds and they wouldn't re-quote , but got a quote from Privilege for around £360 which is similar to what I've been paying last 8 years...dunno if that figure is particuarly good or bad but budget for that amount so happy ish if it stays around that. (Of course if I change from a Gti to a fiesta ecoboost I might balk!)

Did you by any chance see what they put on the seat padding to stop it happening again? I did revive the old thread about it last week but didn't want to bother again so I thought I'd ask here instead. I need to get mine done again soon.

Sure is a hike - average quote was £1,200 and that is for newer model with zero no claims. After reading various tidbits on the net it seems like I may only lose 2 years no claims. So done another quote on a comparison site and the cheapest on offer is currently £700 (which would be more reasonable). I am in a higher insurance post code area and am (was) currently paying £550 per year for a '14 plate. Where I live insurance premiums have been on a steady increase over the past 10 years

I ended up going to a different company after a mate managed to get hold of an original seat base (foam padding) for me at a very cheap price. So it was a straight swap and I only had to pay a fitting charge. Seat looked like new after the job had been finished but I never got around to taking a photo as it has done nothing nut rain here since I got  the job done.

dave - that's rotten what you've had to add to your signature strip. Your comments do sound like you are handling it okay, hope you get yourself sorted soon
