Sorry for re raising this but wee question

The car is 17 months old so has the remainder of the 3 year warranty on it

Firstly - as the AC Citroen stamp is on my book for its first service will this invalidate any warranty item i call for if any issues

Secondly - I spoke to VW on the chat when i was awaiting this car and asked about their extended warranty and could i buy this ........he said yes when mines expires to give them a call..........but only think i can find is you ordering that when buying the car from new has anyone any experience of extended VW warranty on a used car?

Thanks to an EU directive, you can have your car serviced anywhere, as long as they use OEM parts it won't invalidate the warranty. On a car so young, you should be fine.

Re: extended warranty, never felt the need, personally I would save the money.

Re extended warranty, it depends on how long you plan on keeping it. My Mk5 was fine in year 4, but it was towards the end of year 5 when the problems started.

And mine was still fine at the end of year ten...

Only you can answer the question of whether or not it's worth it, and you may not know the answer until way down the line. But it may be worth it for the peace of mind.

You may be lucky and not have a major fault for 10 years, or you might have my luck and be driving round in a liability by year 6. If only VW had the same confidence in their engineering as Kia!

The good news is the Mk7 is now quite a few years into production so most early niggles should hopefully be cured. However when modern cars go wrong, anything major can mean major £££ to fix.

Don't you have to be careful with VW warranties in that the things covered actually reduce over time?

Talking of reliability, I was talking to a bloke I met at a party last weekend and he'd just given back his GTD as company car and he said both he and several others at his company also with GTD's had had water pump impeller failures on 64 plate GTD's.

They've all switched to Volvo V40's now - I had a quick look at it and its a bit meh on the inside.

Used to be very common on MK4 and 5s as the impeller was plastic. New replacement ones were metal so unless the bean counters are at it again I would have thought all newer ones would have been metal.

No I asked about that actually, he said they were plastic and that when their company had queried this with VW, they were told that "metal doesn't make any difference".

I don't think I've heard of these failures on a Mk7 on here though?

Nobody has had a water pump fail yet?

They definitely changed them to metal ones as loads of the plastic ones were going.
