One of the worst bits of design on the Golf - my old astra used to have a switch that turned on the rear window heater and heated mirrors at the same time. Much easier.

A better alternative is a separate switch for the heated mirrors or at least the ability to set them in the infotainment system to come on with the heated rear window instead.

That's exactly what I'm used to, there isn't even a light to tell you that they are on, at least with the rear window on the Vauxhall you'd have the light on the button to remind you.

Off the back of this thread I decided to give it a go...

So, switch to L, stick it in reverse and adjust to where I want it.

Seems to work but how do you make it go back to normal? The only way I can find is to set the switch back to 0 or demist or something?

That's exactly what you have to do.
I only use the mirror tilt when I'm parallel parking and don't want to risk an expensive mistake.
It's not a big deal having to rotate a tiny knob( I'm used to it) 😀

Thats crap!

If it knows when to dip it because you hit reverse, it should also be able to come back up again - like the reversing camera switches off...

Maybe I just didn't go fast enough to trigger it...

I'll try again later.

I'm sure I had this sorted on my old GTD just before I gave it back...

It goes back to normal when you switch off the ignition, turn the switch away from 'L' or drive forwards more than (about) 5mph.

Ok, excellent - I only inched forward in the car park!

Thank you!

It goes back to normal height when you drive forward and get above 5mph or maybe a little higher like 10mph.

The Mk7 does have a light for both windscreen and rear window heaters if that what you mean.

The vauxhalls have a separate switch and light for the heated mirrors too or a combined switch for the heated rear screen and mirrors that had nothing to do with the mirror adjustment. If the golf had the same, you could leave the mirror switch in 'L' and still have the heated mirrors on.

I think it needs to be manually operated, if it always went down to the cerb when reversing it would cause other problems...i know when i am reversing out of the garage if i have left it in the dip position i need to stop the car and turn the switch back because it only just fits through the door and i need to steer through accurately...only about half an inch each side...or dare i say it a couple of mm to the better half...lol
