Also if you've had the heated mirrors on and forget to turn the dial back the tilt function won't work, had that a few times in the past.
One of the worst bits of design on the Golf - my old astra used to have a switch that turned on the rear window heater and heated mirrors at the same time. Much easier.
A better alternative is a separate switch for the heated mirrors or at least the ability to set them in the infotainment system to come on with the heated rear window instead.
