The original plates that were on my car as delivered by the fleet company/supplying VW dealer were aluminium as well, with a reflective layer, but a completely flat style

I've been trying to decide between pressed & the 3d gel style (which I had on previous car) for my Gti CS, just sent some pressed back to an eBay seller due to letters being domed shape not flat faced and legal markings having been very crudely 'engraved' not good at all  ......these however appear nice quality, properly pressed and look very smart on your R mate

I followed the advice of Booth11 and got some from Europl8 on eBay. Going on this week - very impressed with the product.

Did you need to provide any proof of the registration required?  I don't have anything yet until I collect my car next week

The Europl8 ones are flat faced lettering, not domed in case anyone is wondering.  Here's a few close ups.

Absolutely Chris.  Mine get jet washed nearly every week and are as solid as a rock.  No flaking, chipping or anything and the 3M double sided padded tape they are affixed with has not budged and inch (link earlier in this thread).
