I don't rely on auto; always switch them on manually. That way I know when they're on or not.

That's easy, just like the auto wipers, on when you don't need them and off when you do. Technology my arse

Yes, that's why I don't use the auto facility for either lights or wipers (it's probably an age thing ). Doesn't take much effort to to turn them on and off myself.

Is there any other technology you fear? I'm surprised you are visiting a web site really ;-)

I think there is an option below to send a reply by telegram ;-)

I have AID on my GTD.... the main thing you notice when the lights come on is that the MIB unit switches to night mode (assuming you have auto day/night setup). The actual AID itself doesn't change, unless the nav view is up, which does toggle to night mode like the MIB one does.

I tend to notice it when you drive under heavy trees or under a bridge etc out of the corner of my eye.
I'm not sure that's always the case, as I've had situations where the lights have come on but the head unit display is in 'day' colours.

I don't fear technology, I love it  But only when it's useful and does what it's told....

Ha ha! I'd rather it was carrier pigeon

Can't recall saying I was a technophobe. There's some very good and useful tech in our cars, but I'd be happy to do without auto lights and auto wipers that have a mind of their own.

If you are worried about it being dark but not dark enough to trigger them, set the auto lights to EARLY, which will switch them on in more light than normal (I have mine set like that).

Ah, I didn't realise there was a setting to tweak the light setting. I'll have a look at that when I get my car back (currently 300 miles away - long story!!)

Auto lights and wipers work perfectly well. And there is a setting for both to turn off if you're worried!! It's not exactly new technology, it just acts as a safety measure for those bunch of people who find driving a chore, the same ones who generally forget to switch their lights on a night and think DRLs are actually headlights

Yes same here, if it's starts raining and the lights come on, it doesn't always switch the dash to night mode. I have left my nav screen set on middle display with smaller dials so normally notice when the lights come on.

Just came in here to post the same - it rained today and the lights were on but display was in day mode.
