Headlights in instrument cluster display?
« on: 31 July 2017, 23:08 »
I have my lights set in AUTO but when the light is dull or it's raining and the light's not great I can't really tell if the headlights are on or not as there's seemingly no indicator on the dash to say they're on. Is there one?

Is that the light switch itself? Does the icon glow green when the lights come on?

I don't rely on auto; always switch them on manually. That way I know when they're on or not.

Yeah. Just find it odd there's no icon on the main dash to indicate the headlights or side lights are on?! Even my 10yo civic had that with its auto lights?!

Yes, it is a bit poor. In half light conditions, the light is hard to see without shielding it with your hand. A dash light would be better.

No, no indication of the headlights being on on the instrument cluster, only when main beam is on.

TBH, if the lights are set to auto, does it matter? They switch off automatically when you stop and if the light is sufficiently low to need lights, you can see the indicator on the light switch anyway.

If you are worried about it being dark but not dark enough to trigger them, set the auto lights to EARLY, which will switch them on in more light than normal (I have mine set like that).

The only time you need to worry really is in daylight fog, when the sky is white and doesn't trigger the lights. Then you need to intervene, but at that point fogs (if you have them!) is the way to go anyway.

The dash itself will illuminate on the dials etc, when the headlights are on.  Only the full beam will have an indication symbol on the dash when on.

Does anyone know how this works with the new Active Info Display?

On our A3 the red ring surrounding the 12volt socket in the centre console comes on.

I have AID on my GTD.... the main thing you notice when the lights come on is that the MIB unit switches to night mode (assuming you have auto day/night setup). The actual AID itself doesn't change, unless the nav view is up, which does toggle to night mode like the MIB one does.

I tend to notice it when you drive under heavy trees or under a bridge etc out of the corner of my eye.
