I much prefer the look of the new controller

I haven't seen mine since the second last time the car was in the dealers a few months ago, I forgot to turn it off the last time the car was in.

I don't have a pedal box. However, I have read a lot about them.

My problem is - every time I mention them to an insurance company they don't seem to understand. Then because of the 'performance' modification, they increase my premiums accordingly. Resulting in me deciding it is not worth the extra money. Or the risk of fitting one and giving 'them' an excuse to invalidate my insurance.

Yet pedal boxes seem quite popular. So how do other people manage with insurance? Or do you simply take the attitude - easier to ask for forgiveness rather than permission?

I had no bother at all with my insurer, I explained what it did and that it did not alter the power of the car and they were quite happy. It has been noted but no change to my premium. And it is well worth it with a much better response but as I'm used to it, controlability too. When on the odd occasion it is switched off the car feels dead.

Well this is coming back to bite me on the bottom. Direct Line, who are being pretty pants in dealing with my accident claim in January, have upped the premium on my renewal by over 40% this year. So, first attempt to get a quote was with LV who declined me as they considered a pedal box an engine modification which they won't touch. Bugger. But it's not coming off

LV are normally reasonably mod friendly up to a point so that's odd.
Admiral allow a certain amount of mods but can be a bit fussy.

The insurance on these cars has gone up quite a lot in the last year or two, maybe because the amount of R's stolen outweighs the amount of rear enders avoided by the radar.
My R was under £200 to insure with engine mods and pedalbox, plus bigger wheels yet the GTD and GTI CS were about 25% more than that, possibly more and both only had a pedalbox. I can't remember the exact figures now.

I was rather surprised. DL are also charging me as if my accident was my fault until agreed otherwise which is very annoying and it's unlikely to be concluded until the end of the year. I'd have been better off sorting the damage myself at this rate having already coughed up £300 towards it, can't see me getting that back either

Watts, unfortunately if the other party haven't yet admitted liability for the damage to your car, even though it wasn't your fault, your insurer will have treated it as an 'at fault' claim, and if you don't have protected no claims discount (NCD), your NCD will have been reduced accordingly. That tends to be standard practice with non-fault claims, if your insurer is waiting for admission of liability from the other party.

Once your insurer has evidence that the other party was responsible for the damage, you should get your £300 back - assuming that was the amount of the excess under your policy that you had to pay - and your NCD should be reinstated.

Watts I'm in the same situation from my hit and run last year which is still unresolved and an ongoing claim a year later. Also DL. It's down as a 'my fault' claim (I have protected no claims) until the liability of the other party can be claimed.  When my renewal came up in Sept my premium increased on the previous year by over £200, which I managed to get down them to drop by £100 just by basically begging on the phone.  If the third party is identified (unlikely) then I will get my excess back and the premium will be adjusted and applied retrospectively.  The damage to my car was nearing £4K and everything was reported to Police.

Thanks for the responses both, I do have protected no claims which was why I was disappointed with such a steep rise. Booth, sorry to hear about yours still being ongoing. I was going to phone them but wasn't expecting them to budge at all so your success is encouraging. Not expecting the lorry driver to admit fault though but if he does, will enjoy spending my £300 on a cracking night out and a massive hangover
