From a little play with mine, the slight downside of VW wired carplay is that it stops you from also having a bluetooth connection at the same time (from a second phone) - ok if you just have one phone, not so good if for example you have a private phone running car play and a work phone that you just want to receive calls on. Maybe this would be the same with wireless car play - i've no idea.

Yep, and for that reason I feel CarPlay is still a bit half baked. It's nowhere near the finished article in terms of smooth integration and in many ways the standard bluetooth setup is far better. Even the steering wheel buttons and MFD are rendered almost redundant with carPlay features.

Can't quite remember how long the D-Dock took to arrive in uk. Think it was around 10 days. But life is busy so it could have been longer!

Agree with the comments above that CarPlay isn't the finished article. Each iOS update has improved it though. However I can't see it fixing all issues.
