I am lucky in the sense of supermarket shopping as our local Tesco has a few parking spaces with narrow chevrons either side which you can double park half on chevron/parking space to widen the parking space further.  I have been very careful where I park.  My wife will often roll her eyes as I search for that ever so rare larger space which will avoid any potential damage frrom other cars.  I feel all of your pain when you had sustained the damage to your cars.  The first thing which entered my head when i thought it was damaged was when does the local body repair/paint shop open and how much will it cost for Oryx White to be resprayed this time (will it be over £300+, the same as last time).  Luckily I managed to avoid this happening by the skin of my teeth.

I had a couple of stone chips on the lower side done by a council worker when he was strimming grass. They admitted it and said they would pay for repair. The damage was done to the drivers side door and the cost of repair was just over £2k because it was oryx white. I didn't fancy getting the car sprayed for the sake of 3 small chips on the bottom of a door so we settled on a cheque for £1700 instead.

It's great that you got that much cash in payment for damages.  But my mind would not settle knowing the door was chipped.  £2K is a bit steep.  How much were they going to respray.  I am sure it would only be several hundred or just under£1k at the most if I went to the spray shop I use.

I absolutely love Oryx White as a colour.  But it can be expensive to repair.  Glad you managed to settle your damage amicably.

They were going to have to spray both doors and side skirt and blend it into the wing and rear quarter panel. I had to bend down to see them and even then they were hard to see plus I had ordered my next car.

I went to 3 different places and also had an assessor check the car and they agreed about the amount and cost.

I think you did the right thing. £1700 in the pocket is a nice result. There's a very good chance if it were resprayed that you'd be even less happy with the outcome - mismatched paint, uneven lacquer etc. Not worth the grief for a couple of barely visible chips.

Yeah fair play, if you have a car on order soon after anyway then you probably lost much less on trade in, pocketed £1700 on top and eventually got a new car. So in your case it was the best decision.

That was my thought.

Been staying near Oxford, where my mum has been in the JR hospital. As anywhere, the parking is under pressure, but at the back of the area is a park, along the boundaries of the site, which less used, as it is not as obvious and a bit more trouble to get to. This park has been fitted in between trees, and the stretched out shape, the result being that there are a number of those lovely isolated spots where no one will park next to you, or, probably even bother coming close. Parking heaven!

The hotel I ended up at was a golfing venue, sited in the middle of it's own course. Very nice, very quiet and only a bit more expensive than a Premier Inn with a proper breakfast included. Here, there was plenty of well laid out parking in several large bays, including one with a locking barrier, for the members. What amused me was that there were several nice cars, probably 6 or so, including M BMWs and some nice Jags and high end 4X4s, parked in the end spaces of the partly empty bays, to be safe, much as we do. Happily, there was one of these spaces for mine. Parking heaven!

Parking has become an everyday hazard for anyone who cares for his car, but, when something as average sized and "ordinary" as a VW Golf Mk7 all but hangs out over the markings of normal parking spaces, what can you expect?

The parking of the Range Rover on the photo is just so careless and ignorant.  Is the scratches on the rear arch of the Golf R a result of the careless parking?   How the hell does anyone manage to get out of the Range Rover when it's parked so close?

That 'Range Rover' is a Freelander  but even so, that's the sort of parking you'd expect to see in France.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.
