I seem to remember a post on here saying you can get the stop/start permanently disabled via VAGCOM - is this
straightforward, has anybody had it done - can you just ask the dealer to do this or would you need to go to an independant garage or VW tuner with VAGCOM ?
MEZZA: There are basically 2 x tweaks for disabling STOP/START (SS) and both are fairly mature now -so both have been implemented by many mk7 owners.
These tweaks trick the decision making process into thinking that parts of the engine/electrics can't sustain switching off the ignition: The "voltage method" (above) fools the car into thinking that there is insufficient battery capacity to turn-over the engine once the "START" command is given and the "Temperature " method makes the module believe that the engine is too hot to switch-off. Both these methods work, but they result in the
SS tweak tell - which is the letter "A" embedded in a circle with a slash that appears on the MFD whenever the car comes to a rest.
There are other ways that avoid the "tell" - one of which is to pay kufatec an obscene amount of money for a device that plugs into the OBD socket.
But IMO, a far better way to disable SS (without the "tell") is to build and install an
automatic SS kill-switch. I've been using one of these for a long time now and it has worked flawlessly - every time that I turn-on the ignition, 5 seconds later my Auto SS kill switch disables SS and I can re-engage SS any time in the journey if I so desire (not that I have ever done something as insane as this, because IMO, SS is the most dangerous facility in the car - especially if you have a RHD car and you are completing a RH turn against oncoming traffic).
My Automatic SS Kill Switch is easy to build, it is far cheaper than the kufatec device and it ain't difficult to install! Anyone with basic soldering skills and rudimentary DIY experience (like me) can do it!

PS: The other way to disable SS is like
THIS - I've not tried this method, so as kickdown says "try this at your own risk"
