That brownish purple maskerading as a shade of black is a dreadful colour. Makes it so much easier to swallow the upgrade cost for any other colour.

And that's precisely what VW want you to do and why they have opted for a standard ('free') colour that won't be popular with the majority of customers; most people will pay extra for an alternative colour.

More profit for VW, as it probably costs no more to paint a car in one of the 'extra-cost' colours than it does to paint it Black Rubin - all will get primer, colour coat and lacquer. Oryx White may be the exception, as I believe there's an extra step in the painting process.

Yep. I can understand charging extra for metallic paint, but i've always thought charging more for solid paint is a bit cheeky. It's obviously charging for the sake of charging.

In fairness to VW though they're not the only ones doing it.

That black rubin colour is truely hideous IMHO. It reminds me of an Austin Allegro my uncle had in the 1970's!

... you may be right, but just because you put a smiley face at the end, does not make your put-down any less insulting!

Being PC - Rubin Black would not be my choice of colour even if it is free!

Think that colour was called Damask Red. I know someone that had an Austin Maxi in the same colour.

Now we know what British Leyland did with all the surplus paint when they folded....VW obviously got a job lot

Thanks for all the replies and input on this thread.  I'm still undecided whether to stick with tungsten or change, if I do I think it'll be to pure white.

I think the GTI & GTD suit the more traditional colours such as white and red best.

For me it is between red, tungsten silver and oryx white if I take the option of a replacement car for mine.
