I had a rattle from day one, knew I should have gotten a 3 door

If I use my elbow to press on the top of the rear door card it would stop. The car is going into the dealers in a couple of weeks and I have so many problems that they booked it in for minimum of a week. So much for VW being well built.

I'd personally strongly advise against letting a dealer chase down relatively minor issues like interior rattles. Any rattles for that matter. Ask yourself how much it's really bothering you first. And leaving it with them for a week?! Madness. The car will come back with one problem fixed and 3 more created.

As for 3 versus 5 door... the rear panels / door cards are much easier to remove on a 5 door ;)

The reason it is going in for a week is all the other problems.

Various rattles
Extremely unstable under hard braking
The discover nav unit needs replacing
Rattling/nocking rear suspension
Both keys only work 70/80% of the time after replacing batteries

The 'should have gotten a 3 door' comment was a bit tongue in cheek.

Any instructions anywhere on removing the rear door card? I'll do it myself rather than booking it in if it's ready to do.

Don't think I'm allowed to link other M7 websites so here is a screenshot of a guide Sootchucker did

Have you checked the rubber stoppers on the sides of tailgate, as often these are a source of rattles and sometimes sounds like its emanating from elsewhere.  They can be unevenly adjusted which causes the tailgate to rattle.  It's a known problem.

Or as Joe suggests your door seals /window felts might need lubrucating.  My driver's door seals have just started to creak so they'll be getting the Krytox treatment very soon. Same happened around same time in the mk6 and Krytox cured it.

I had a rattle in my A3 that drove me mad for years. I could have sworn it was coming from the front passenger door but it turned out to be a packet of tic tacs in the centre console
I'm not even joking.

I think I may have found the issue. Tried lifting the seat up a tiny bit and the majority of the rattle has gone. I'm still going to check door seals etc though.

Is Sonnax Gumipflegge the same kind of stuff as krytox? It's only 10 quid on Amazon as opposed to 36 for krytox!

Ya it does a similar job. It's a bit messier but Krytox isn't worth the extra outlay imo.

Well it is a lubricant and you can use it on seals but it's very short lived by comparison with Krytox, and if you have any on your paintwork (round frames etc) and it gets wet in rain, it runs like crazy and is a pita to get off the paintwork.  Krytox is pricy for a small bottle but a little goes a long long way and once done the effects last a long long time.  Worth it imo.  I bought a 2 pk of Gummi Pflege a few years back to tackle my door seals, used it once, had a very short lived effect, ran all over the paint, bought Krytox instead, one application, never had to redo it.  Sold the gummi 2pk to someone else on a forum.
