Rattle from back door, drivers side.
« on: 17 May 2017, 22:30 »
Anyone had a rattle appear from the rear passenger door? I can't make my mind up if it's just the door rubbers or if it's the door handle mechanism. Could even be the poorly fitted plastic trim panels over the wheel arch that look like they've been fitted by Stevie Wonder?

It might be the seat belt

No, checked the seat belt and it's not that. I'll put the belt in the holder as though it's fastened on the way to work in the morning just to double check though.

Had a rattle in my driver's door which was caused by a lack of anti-rattle tape on the bar from the door release to the lock. VW forgot that one so could easily have missed a few more....

It's really likely to be the door rubbers. Is it worse when moving slowly, say over speed bumps or parking?

Krytox will cure it. Or try some other cheaper (less longer lasting) rubber lubricant first. On the felt strips.

It seems worse at low speeds. The door rubbers do seem very dry if you know what I mean but the rattle sounds like a plasticy or dull metallic sound. Will give the door seals a go first.

I had a rattle from day one, knew I should have gotten a 3 door

If I use my elbow to press on the top of the rear door card it would stop. The car is going into the dealers in a couple of weeks and I have so many problems that they booked it in for minimum of a week. So much for VW being well built.

Driven to work this morning and rattle still rattling, so it isn't seat belt. Need to book it in or remove for card myself.

I'd personally strongly advise against letting a dealer chase down relatively minor issues like interior rattles. Any rattles for that matter. Ask yourself how much it's really bothering you first. And leaving it with them for a week?! Madness. The car will come back with one problem fixed and 3 more created.

As for 3 versus 5 door... the rear panels / door cards are much easier to remove on a 5 door ;)

Have to agree with you there. I remember, years ago, when I bought my first brand new car - a new MINI - I had a small rattle in the dash. Got the dealer to resolve the issue. They had to take the dash apart. It never did line up properly again and the rattle remained along with a few other squeaks! I think unless you can fix it yourself leave it and turn the music up a little louder ;-)
