Funny you should ask. Just got delivered this morning. Did a little test on a bit of white plastic, before I go ahead and put it on the car and it's a terrible match - almost grey and not "Pure white". I'm now wondering whether anybody has correctly matched the Pure White LC9A paint that the Golf has because I've now ordered from Paints4U and Chipex and they are both horrible matches. I did a test alongside each other today and they are very similar matches i.e. almost grey.

I'll let it dry, apply another coat and see what the outcome is but I can't see it miraculously changing to pure white.

I'm totally lost as to why I can't get a colour match!

Here are the two paints for Pure White (LC9A)

As you can see, definitely not white

Have you not tried the dealers for the official VW stuff? I've even seen it on eBay - https://www.ebay.ie/itm/161939268879

The brush that comes with it is too heavy for a small chip but you can use your own brush or a cocktail stick. I wouldn't bother with the lacquer either.

Chipex is comically over priced and it's claims re usage / miracle cures are dubious to say the least.

I have, yes, but 1. everybody always raves about how good the match is and how easy it is to use and 2. I didn't want to have to go down the wet and dry sanding route by hand.

I would complain to Chipex that the colour match is terrible if I was you, you'll probably  get another bottle of paint or a refund, in my experience they have excellent customer service.

Yep, will do. They do offer a colour match guarantee so I'll see what they have to say. Just seems a little odd that both the Paints4U and Chipex colours are almost the same but both completely wrong.

Sounds to me that rather than Chipex, you need Tippex

I used to be a parts manager and the amount of times people came back saying it was a poor match.

Shake the bottle for ages and try again!

There's only so much shaking you can do it's not going to miraculously turn a grey looking paint into pure white.
