Seen on road Mk7.5
« on: 07 April 2017, 18:11 »
Hi, just seen a MK 7.5 GTD? (Going the other way) in white silver. Or was it a Club Sport? No it had silver rather than red in the lights and grill.
Any way it looked superb. The lower part of the face lift gives it more presence. It seemed wider. Seen on Whitley Bay sea front.

Likewise but I seen a standard TSI 7.5 Golf.

Seen it coming from the rear and couldn't make out what car it was in the rear view mirror as it had terrible DRLs. It was like a Halfords add on.
They really let the standard model down.

The front headlights look fantastic in the flesh. They flow better and give the front of the car a sportier look. The white paint contrasts really well with the black grill and new front fins. The front badge is 2D, but it really does look 3D.

I was not sure about the sweeping indicators, but having seen them, think they are really cool. The car does not look much different from the rear to me. Which is a good thing. I always did like the back of the Mk7.

Inside I really like the carbon/honeycomb trim. However, there is a lot of glossy piano black trim around the center display screen = finger print magnet.

Is the rear view mirror new? It had no surround.

The Active Info Display is growing on me. I'm still not impressed with the resolution or the graphics. However, I can see the advantages of having the satnav screen displayed there.

Obviously, it was the same to drive as the last Mk7.

The frameless rear view mirror was introduced around the middle of last year.

Thanks Daz.

I too like the LED headlights, but I think I prefer the rear LED light clusters on the pre-facelift GTI/GTD/R as I'm not a fan of the sweeping indicators.

I've got piano black trim in my car and I don't have too much of a problem with finger prints, but it is a dust magnet, and you have to be careful cleaning it so You don't end up with swirls.

I think the frameless rear view mirror was introduced some time last year, so the later pre-facelift Golfs have it.

Not a fan of the AID and if I was thinking of getting a new performance Golf, I'd seriously consider going for the conventional dials, but I'd need to see the AID 'in the flesh' to make an informed decision. I think that when the time comes to sell, prospective 2nd owners might expect to get the Active Info Display, so not having it could be a disadvantage.

You took the words right out my mouth.
Trading in obviously wouldn't be a problem but prospective 2nd hand buyers would probably expect it and might actually think there is something dodgy going on without it

The trouble I had was trying to identify it. Was it the mark 7.5 or Club Sport. The silver in the grill gave it away but if it were a GTI I am not so sure I could. Spec some 19 inch rims and the sun roof (black) well you get the idea.
Club sport drivers will say it's all about the performance, handling and sound but there must be a niggle, itch or just plain p*****d off that the face lifted golf looks very much the same. Especially with a bit of vinyl. Some one had to say it!

Thanks for letting me borrow the photos.
I would still go for the Club Sport and put up with the explaining "it's not a GTI, it looks nothing like one, it's a Club Sport"

Going on the things that are "adjustable" with VCDS, I reckon it will be possible to change the sweeping rear indicators to flashing. Guessing there might even be other possible settings.

I quite like them - just a bit of harmless bling.
