Right, the Km/MPH thing has further sold me on the digi-dash! Our UK speedos are a horrible mess. Why we have to have both I have no idea. If anything, we lose clarity, although, of course, it is something you get used to. Looks awful though, so a nice clean digi-dash, with just MPH markings, will be great.

I don't have a problem with the current UK dials in MPH/KMH. Pretty much all of my cars have had this, so its hardly something new to cope with.

When I am in Europe though I do select KMH as the unit of speed measurement in the MIB and then set the MFD display (between the clocks) to speed so I can be 100% certain of my speed in KMH without having to resort to the tiny KMH figures on the dial.

Would be even better on the new active display though...

I don't know about all of the negative vibes people have about active display - the likes of supercars have had them for years. Would you really say "I like the lambo but could never cope with the digital dash..."

The reason we have it is probably down to European rules. Not going to be a problem in two years time now.

I don't think it is actually, I am sure I had at least one car without it since 1974!

So have I, plenty of cars without it years ago(I think) but rules change all the time. From the 1/4/84 all cars in the U.K. have to show mph and kph either simultaneously or separately.

Another tick for the 3 series - HUD can be configured in metric and imperial so you can set the sport dials to BHP and Lb Ft or KW and NM similarly you can set the HUD to show kmH it was fantastic on a trip to France last year then you avoid need to look at the speedo ever.

I know I bang on about how good the HUD is in the 3 series but why don't VW bring some tech like that to top end Golfs it is just fantastic when driving fast .. And far more use than waving your hand at the dashboard or flowing indicators

Not very clear but you can probably see the HUD showing iPod songs on right and mph on left.

I don't know why they don't offer a HUD this time around... the Passat has had it for a while, along with other premium brands like BMW....and Kia.
