Random thought of the day
Yup

Another random thought: Why would anyone who owns a Mk7 want to buy a Mk7.5. They are the same car.

I personally wouldn't move from a GTI to a FL GTI but I would be tempted to move to a FL R. I appear to be one of the few who like the new TFT display and the new DRL's. Think the small styling changes make a nice difference but still too conservative for me and not aggressive enough. Now add the akraprovic exhaust system and it becomes very tempting
That's similar to my thinking on moving from a Mk6 GTD to a Mk7 GTD. My test drives left me thinking that the performance, economy and comfort are only slightly better on the Mk7 GTD. Undoubtedly, the Mk7 is more refined in every way. However, for me, the differences were not significant enough to make me want to change. (I did like the progressive steering though and the ACC on my wife's car has grown on me.)

Now my circumstances have changed. This means I can now consider a petrol car. I was very tempted by the Golf R, but I have never had a GTI before. So for me it is as much about moving between models as it is about moving between generations. I'm hoping to notice a significant difference moving from a Mk6 GTD to a Mk7.5 GTI/PP.

Having said all that - if I hadn't liked the style of the facelift, I would probably have kept my car and waited for the Mk8.

With you all the way, there Craig. Are you with me on the Tumeric Yellow? Love a good curry!

I tell you that colour on the R at the Geneva motor show looked pretty good to me.

I saw that Andy and at just under £30k it looks like a very good deal. The white one in particular looked stunning but as you pointed out I don't think it has the buckets and that would be a deal breaker.

The very handy thing with the Active display is that changing from MPH to KPH will be really straightforward... probably just a setting in the MFD. I know you guys in the UK have a very cluttered speedo with both MPH and (small) KPH, but the active info should allow you choose one or the other. From an Irish perspective, we get in a lot of used UK imports, so people buying those cars in a few years will be able to switch the clocks to KPH easily...

Just had a finance quote there for the new mk7.5 (DSG/PP) and it is coming out only an extra £10pm more than my current mk 7(manual/no PP) payment.......no brainer?

You're right Joe, the display is pretty cluttered with the km/h figures on the dials. Certainly looking at the Irish and European cars, the dial is a lot less cluttered. I also ride bikes and the R6 I have has a digital dash and that's really handy to change to KM for trips over the border, so I'd say it's possible. Would probably cut down on manufacturing costs too with VW having to make one Activ Info Display for both markets!
