Blank buttons near gearstick question.
« on: 25 February 2017, 17:19 »

What is the 6th blank button for? (if you had the option specced)

I take it that the left 3 are auto start/stop, traction control and normal/sport mode. Then the other two on the right are parking sensors and maybe park assist?

It's a shame that VW couldn't have switched the buttons to the opposite sides on RHD cars.

It seems it is for some sort of tire pressure monitoring system

I suspect that on later cars with the MIB gen 2 infotainment unit where the TPMS is reset through the vehicle settings via the infotainment screen, the top right (6th) button by the gear lever is no longer used and is always a blank

2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey

TPMS switch..

The MK7 was designed for 6 functioning buttons, just that the bean counters decided to renegade the TPMS & ASR/ESC function buttons to the touch screen to save costs. Some countries spec the higher end cars (GTI/R) with the ASR/ESC button & only China spec the TPMS button. So no Europe made TPMS button, so ebay & China for the module.

All ABS units have two slave outputs for Aux switches for safety, ASR/ESC & TPMS function, I have wired both switches into my car, fiddly to install yes, but way quicker than the slow infotainment screen.

Also if the infotainment screen goes down how do you reset the ABS unit for the TPMS function if you have altered the tyre pressures? Flipping VW!

Oh no!

I have just realised that those with OCD will never be able to own a Golf. Their listless souls will drift in purgatory forever due to the lack of a 6th button in the UK.

I think someone (maybe on here?) wired a remote garage door opener onto the blank sixth button.
