The stunning new facelifted Golf Hatch and Estate opens for order on Thursday 2 February.

With subtle updates to the exterior styling, enhanced infotainment, new safety features and engine upgrades, the 2017 facelifted model continues our proud tradition of quality and value for money.

Here’s all the information you need to begin quoting and taking orders.

Dates for your diary

2 February

Facelifted Golf Hatch and Estate open for order
Facelifted Golf Hatch and Estate quotable in Connect OnLine
Brochure, pricelist and Volkswagen.co.uk live

The facelifted Golf – what’s new?
The iconic Golf had a successful 2016, finishing ahead of the Ford Focus as the most popular mid-sized hatchback in the UK.  The Golf has had more than two million sales in the UK to date and the updated version of the seventh generation Golf brings ‘big car’ technology to the compact family car class.

The range includes S, SE, SE Nav, GT, R-Line, GTE, GTE Advance, e-Golf, GTD, GTD BlueLine, GTI, GTI Performance and R hatchbacks.

There’s also a wide choice of estate models: S, SE, SE Nav, GT, GTD, GTD BlueLine and R plus the Alltrack.

Exterior styling

As well as the impressive new wheel designs and body colours, on the front of the Golf you’ll notice a more masculine bumper and grille, LED day-time running lights and optional full LED headlights.  The lower grille has cleaner lines – the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) sensor is now behind the Volkswagen roundel (except on the GTE and e-Golf where the front roundel holds the vehicle’s charge point).

The rear has premium styling with new LED taillights, a new rear bumper and an enhanced rear diffuser as standard across all trims.  The LED taillights have running indicators on performance trims (GTD, GTI, GTI Performance and R), and stronger chrome trims on the R-Line.

Enhanced infotainment
You’ll see a real difference in the new Golf’s impressive interior cabin.  The next generation MIB infotainment systems are included in all trims. We’ve increased the size of Composition Media and Discover Navigation from 6.5-inch to 8-inch. Customers can still choose Discover Navigation Pro, which has a 9.2-inch screen and new Gesture Control technology. The user simply needs to swipe their hand in front of the Discover Navigation Pro unit to change audio settings and menu items.

Active Info Display is standard on the performance Golf trims, adding significant additional value and impact.

Safety features

Enhanced optional safety features include:

Traffic Jam Assist
Trailer Assist
Emergency Assist
Enhanced Park Assist 3.0 (provides next generation semi-autonomous parking)

New BlueLine trim
To meet CO2 thresholds, we’ve introduced the GTD BlueLine Hatch and Estate models. We expect the GTD BlueLine trim to appeal to the 25 per cent of corporate fleet companies that have a 120g/km CO2 policy. In BlueLine models, an adjustment is made to standardised specification to target a specific CO2 threshold.  For example, the facelifted Golf Hatch GTD trim (with an 18-inch alloy as standard) has a CO2 value of 122g/km, while the Golf Hatch GTD BlueLine trim (with a 17-inch alloy as standard) delivers a CO2 value of 116g/km and improved fuel efficiency.

Engines
The new Golf engines are highly efficient. Even the new base petrol engine – the turbocharged direct-injection 1.0 TSI with 85PS – has 58.9 mpg* (combined) fuel consumption. This engine opens for order in wave two (see launch waves below).

We’re also introducing the turbocharged petrol 1.5 TSI Evo engine – a new four-cylinder unit that generates 150PS and features Active Cylinder Management (ACT). There is also a BlueMotion version producing 130PS which features a complete engine shut-down function (as in the hybrid Golf GTE). Meanwhile, the iconic Golf GTI generates 230PS or 245PS in GTI Performance guise.

The range-topping Golf R gets more power than ever before too, with a peak output of 310PS.  That’s enough to carry it from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds.

The new 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG) also helps to deliver CO2 figures that have in some cases been improved by up to 10 g/km. All Golfs also feature BlueMotion Technologies such as a stop-start system and a mode for storing braking energy (regenerative braking).

Pricing
We have negotiated a significant price reduction on the facelifted Golf – both for the Hatch and the Estate, as we revealed at the Retailer Business Conference. This is only the third time that Golf pricing has been realigned in the past 20 years and it gives us an opportunity to improve our performance across all parts of the Golf range:

Golf SE is £1,175* less than the outgoing Golf Match Edition. SE Nav trim is also cheaper (-£425)*
Both Golf GT and R-Line are £650* less than the GT Edition and R-Line Edition on the current Golf
The facelifted Golf GTD has a £255* reduction, but has Active Info Display and LED headlights as standard compared to the outgoing model
GTI (+£5)*, GTI Performance (+£110)* and R (+£180)* all have minor price increases compared to the outgoing model. However, they all have additional power, Active Info Display and full LED headlights as standard
* average price decrease, based on five-door manual derivative

The facelifted Golf has been well received by the residual value community; it has achieved an average increase of £250-£300 across most trims (36/60k) due to styling and interior equipment.

Volkswagen Financial Services has also added a further £300 to the residual value of the Performance models because of the Active Info Display, LED headlights and additional power.

Retail tactical offers
The weakening of the pound against the Euro in the second half of 2016 meant the vast majority of manufacturers increased their prices; particularly in the mid-sized hatchback segment where the Golf competes. Both BMW (+£330 / +1.3%) and Audi (+£460 / +1.9%) increased their prices in January 2017. This makes us more optimistic, especially because the realignment means an average £650 price reduction for the facelifted Golf.

We will launch the facelift Golf (Hatch and Estate) with a retail tactical finance campaign with a £1,000 deposit contribution and 4.9 per cent APR, delivering a headline rate of £185 per month (48/40k - SE 1.0 110PS TSI 5DR 6SPD).

So a little more tech on the performance models, for a little less RRP, but realistically costing a little more due to losing a grand deposit contribution - overall not a bad place to be, considering the drop in the pound.

I thought we'd be seeing a £1500 price rise and no deposit contribution (contribution kicking in later if sales were less than target). For the tech coming in, the active display is probably at the threshold of being cheaper than the analogue dial instrumentation, or at least less prone to warranty issues (no moving parts), LED lighting I could see being cheaper than Xenons now - do LED lights require washers like Xenons?

If I could get £21-22k private sale for my R when it is 2 years old, i'd be tempted to get a facelifted R at broker prices.

I'm sure VW only retain touch screen tech to differentiate from Audi, but it is so bloody clumsy all the time and unresponsive in the winter. I'd much rather have the toggle dial/menu layers set up that Audi have - you really don't need to take your eyes off the road for more than a fraction of a second to operate it.

LED headlights don't require washers.

But I'd imagine they'd still be part of the winter pack.

Is everyone on the configurator? It's jammed up solid.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Have a real aversion to solid state tech which is compounded by it usually being a little slow and buggy.

Keeping eyes on road is prime, and for example, when have the radio in main view and not preset, to find and push the little arrow on screen is clumsy to go to next station. The buttons are so needed for assurance in your action.

Feel escaped a few things with the Facelift and by time in position to change then hopefully the tech will be on next versions in the MK 8 IE: Having to live with MIB 1 before the MIB 2 units were introduced.

Quite like the idea of the black pretoria, but not on my Lapiz, as think chrome works best, but on other colours think they will look great.
