Aftermarket ebay xenons
« on: 09 November 2016, 20:00 »
Seen a few aftermarket sets of xenons with led drls on ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/262501925706

Seeing as i cant seem to find any genuine xenons im just wondering if anyone has bought and used them? They seem to be decent value!

Thanks,

Do they come with the rest of the kit.... headlight washers, auto levelling?

Not a fan of aftermarket headlights, they are usually crap. Poor bright field / dark field bordering.....

Yeah don't get me wrong I'm not expecting any decent reviews to be honest. I've already got headlamp washers not fussed about the level adjustment etc as never bothered on previous cars.

Even thou it says they are UK legal I probably think they aren't (I did not see an E mark in the photos). Certainly not without auto levelling because you'll dazzle others.

They do look pretty good for aftermarket lights.

As others have said, the beam pattern will be a bit of an unknown until they're fitted. Also how fast reacting are the ballasts? Being bi-xenon, when the lights are turned off, they need to turn on to full power when you flash main beam. Many aftermarket HID kits take a couple of seconds to get to full brightness. This is fine for dipped beam and also main once the lights are on, but for a flash they may be too slow.

It's not often you see a halogen car with washers. They all have the washer caps on the bumper for some reason and people assume that they have them.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

I have headlight washers with my halogen headlights, I think they must come with the winter pack or something to that affect.

I'd like to fit xenons but the retrofit procedure looks a little complicated for me, as I'd only go the genuine route rather than aftermarket.

Headlamp washers with halogen headlamps mean you've got the winter pack (you'll have heated seats, heated washer jets and low washer level warning light too). All cars with xenons fitted as part of the original factory build will have them too.

Not sure if all Mk6 golf models have the washer caps on the front bumper; all Mk6 GTI/GTD and R models do (R's had xenons as standard, so have headlamp washers) but only GTI/GTD models with either winter pack and/or xenons will have headlamp washers behind the bumper cut-outs / washer caps.

Gone but not forgotten;
2016 Polo GTI; Blue Silk
2011 mk6 Golf GTD; Carbon Grey
2007 mk5 Golf GT (2.0 170bhp TDI version); Deep Black Pearl
2002  mk4 Golf GTI (the 150 bhp diesel version); Deep Black Pearl

They don't. Just the GTI/D and Bluemotion have caps.
