Auto-hold is really good. My last car (non-Golf) had an electronic handbrake but it was a manual one in that you had to engage it but it did come off on its own.

The only danger now is that when you hop into a car with a manual handbrake sometimes you forget.... i managed to get to the petrol station in my wife's Focus before I realised why I thought it was so under powered was because I hadn't taken off the handbrake.... lol

Is Autohold and the parking break which comes on when you get out of the car only available on DSG cars or is it the same on Manual too?

You don't even need to pull the parking lever switch either. Just let the car do it's thing.

A few people do this, they probably don't realise that when you turn the ignition off that the hold switches to handbrake, they put the handbrake on manually before they switch off.

I didn't know that.So i tried it this afternoon.Lo and behold once the engine was off and i opened the door-the full on parking brake whirred into action!. Once less thing to bother about.

Sorry to hear about your vandalism incident.Nothing lower than people who mess with others hard earned property.

Drove down to get the car today. All went great!!! Until 15minutes into the journey when the coolant warning came up followed by "stop, engine overheating" temp was almost into the red, pulled over at the nearest layby and opened the bonnet and was met by a little smoke/steam.

Give the guys a call and they were straight back out with a tow truck and my old Golf so just waiting on a call to find out whats happening, hopefully just needs coolant!!! 🤔

Do not let them get away with just that! There is no reason why the car should do that, just because it had stood for a while, especially if it was properly checked before handover. You need a proper diagnosis - low coolant is just a symptom.

Well, it could just be that the level has dropped slowly, over the life of the car, and this has never been topped up. Not good in itself, but maybe acceptable. Not sure, but the GTD I had before my GTI did not loose any coolant in the 2 years I had it. Otherwise, it could be that a leak has developed, due to the car being stood for a while, maybe through a pump seal, or even something as simple as the expansion tank cap seal drying out. Worst scenario would be a major engine problem, but that does not seem to be common with these engines.

My point is that you need to be sure, as soon as possible, that you do not have an ongoing problem with this car. I hope you get the right answers, the car is properly fixed and you go on to enjoy it. GTDs are awesome machines!

Thanks for the replies :) I really do hope its as you said, coolant level needs topped up and I could deal with a leak as long as they fix whatever needs fixed. Fingers crossed it isnt any sort of engine problem. Still no phone call so I take it ill get a phone call in the morning. Its an independand dealer not a VW dealer but has excellent reviews online & on their facebook page.

Theres a 6 month warranty with those guys & 7/8 months left from the 3 years VW warranty which I suppose should keep me right!

Just a nusance that I have to make the journey again tomorrow or whenever shes ready to go.
