I have a manual Golf R with Climate Windscreen.  I also find I have to enable the option for climate windscreen every morning when I want to use it. As far as I know, mine does not come on automatically when I press Max Windscreen

Many thanks.  Its funny they have dropped that function since my 2014 Gti with the windscreen.  We still have the tick box for auto screen heating though.

Mine is going into the garage Friday for them to have a look and not know what do as usual lol

Well I took my car into the dealer for them to have a look.  When I went back my confidence was shattered when they said they were worried the car did not have the heated screen fitted, as they could not see the wires in the screen!   I guess they need to read up the their own technology.  Needless to say they didnt know what was wrong with the auto function and thought they had got it working by manually switching the screen on, tuening off the ingnition, then turning it back on.  All that was happening was the 8 minute timer was remembering the activation from before the ingnition was turned on.

I am positive there is an issue with the heated screen, more than likely software related, or possibly a faulty humidity sensor.
As with many 'improvements', for example the stop start function cutting the engine before the car stops moving, and using the radar sensor to restart the engine, VW's modifications tend to be a step backward in reality.  I suspect every 2017 model year Golf with a heated windscreen has the same issue as mine, and I am one of the few people that has had the screen on a previous car, and knows how it should work.

Had mine on this morning.Car well iced up (apart from the side nearest my house).
Into car, switched on heated rear, mirrors and front screen to full demist.Back out, scraped the drivers window only.
Back in and a couple of wipes of the front screen and we were good to go!.It's that fast!.
I can't recommend the heated front screen highly enough.Especially if you have a diesel and live in the Northern Climates.

My 2014 Gti was like that, but on my new 2017 MY R the screen heating does not come on when you switch on front screen demist.

What i have noticed when it's on Auto heating. If you go into the menu the windscreen heating symbol is not illuminated.Like it says it's not on.When it obviously is.When you press the symbol it illuminates.

On my Gti the symbol never lit up when the screen came on automatically or by selecting the screen clear button. Sadly now the only way I can have the screen heating is via the climate setup menu and manually pressing the heated screen symbol on the touch screen.

Sooooo back to the wondscreen.  Nobody else seems to have the heated screen?

I have it on my GTD.Since i live in Scotland i use it quite a bit from Nov-Feb.As others have said.It (the diesel) takes an eternity to warm up so i knew i had to have it.Shame about the advanced tele prep crap you have to spec with it-but that's how it is with VW.
Mine is also set to come on automatically when you press the max demist button.I notice it de-ices quicker than it de-mists.I haven't had to switch onto manual heating as yet.Maybe the auto demist function isn't as good as it claims to be?.
I would get VW to check it out.Maybe your heating element is faulty?.

Many thanks. You can check if it comes on with the max demist fuction as it shows up on the convenience w consumers list when it's on. It was fine on my Gti but certainly not ok the R.
I imagine it's a messed up new version of the software.

Tried that convenience consumers list thing. It wasn't on the scrolling menu display but now it is!. :nerd:
I have noticed that when you press the max demist(heating) button it only shows as 'air-con' on the consumers list. But if you switch it on manually from the menu it shows as 'heated front screen' and 'air con'
It's all a bit strange.

You chaps with GTD's not using the electric supplementary heater to boost your warm air on cold mornings? That comes on when you select a/c on.

Sadly my dealer is clueless.  They didnt even know at the PDI if the screen had been fitted or how to turn it on!  I am not sure what on earth the auto function is supposed to do though if the screen never comes on automatically.   I will have to go direct to VW with the problem I guess.
