It's no different to a range rover, merc g wagon etc. Vw seem to be selling quite a few new tiguans and the R is probably the next step.

Ha ha! I'm not saying I'd like a Tiguan R. Just thought you chaps might find it interesting. Interesting from the point of view that VW may be about to expand the 'R' brand.
Interesting it is and well done for posting it up for discussion/dissection, it's just the wrong engine in our opinions. As Dubber said, you'd expect it to have the 240 Diesel which was confirmed by jv that it does but is more of an R-Line than an R.

VW used to have the R36 Passat which was a beast and more in keeping with the R image (4WD, hefty and lots of brute force from the engine) but the Tig R is maybe a step too far! Then again it's a niche car which may well sell in certain markets. I can see the 240 Diesel being quite popular, even I would approve of that.

A 240PS diesel would have made more sense.

There is one of those:

With more power on tap than even the current iteration of the iconic Golf GTI, Volkswagen is making its most potent Tiguan yet available for order in the UK this October.  The new 240 PS bi-turbo diesel, designated BiTDI, also offers an increase of fully 30 PS over the previous most powerful Tiguan, the 2.0 TSI seen in the preceding generation of the car.

The 240 TDI is on the configurator. An R line 240 starts at £38,640.
Red Mk6 gone replaced with a white Mk7 which has gone too. Green Mk2 here to stay.

Regardless of which Tiguan you spec it's a very expensive car and the biturbo diesel and petrol R are now in range rover and Audi sq territory.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.

Indeed. But what discount could be achieved on this top-of-the-range Tiguan? 10-13% max? Even if that were possible it would still be bl**dy expensive!

My thoughts on seeing one are that you basically get a golf'ish size interior with an exterior the size of a proper 4x4.

There are several of this sort of nasty thing out there, people buy them because they think that they are getting something bigger than a medium sized car, when all they are doing is getting something that they can't park and bash other people in the bloody car park.

:D
Current: Mk8 GTI DSG, Adelaides, DCC, HUD, HK, Winter Pack, Rear Camera.. Aka "HMS Weasel"

Gone: 2017 Mk7.5 GTD,manual, NavPro
Gone: 2014 Mk7 GTD, manual, NavPro, DCC

It's the high up driving position that a lot of people like and nothing nasty about them. Maybe owners on the Tiguan forum are saying the same about golf gti's and Rs.
TCR, Pure Grey, DCC, Dynaudio and Climate Screen.
