It's the high up driving position that a lot of people like and nothing nasty about them. Maybe owners on the Tiguan forum are saying the same about golf gti's and Rs.

There's a Tiguan forum?

I like the new model Tiguan as i think the styling is great, whether I need a 300bhp one or a 38K one I am not so sure

Which they would put the 240ps in a GTD and give us the option of 4motion

I like the look of the new Tiguan too. The old one was a bit soft and mumsnet looking for my tastes but the new one is far more purposeful. That said, as others mentioned they aren't all that big inside. Their sole advantage that I can make out is the higher driving position and easier to lift kids in and out and they look imprsssive in the school car park. Hence all the mummies love em.

I think I'd have a Passat Estate instead. A proper roomy wagon.

Didn't realise this forum was so snooty towards other cars!! The tiguan is one of the most popular SUV's and shows that not everybody that buys vw has to buy a golf R or a gti. All this talk of "it will ruin the R brand" is total nonsense. In reality does anyone really need to spend 40k on a tiguan, no. Do you really need to spend circa 30k on just a golf, no. Vw obviously think they can sell a tiguan R just like the clubsport s on the golf, not to everyone's looking but undoubtedly will sell and like the CSS have sold out.

I perfectly well understand the idea that people want/need a larger car to fit whatever in it.

What I don't understand is where its only the exterior that's large.

A friend of mine bought one of those Nissan Duke things because "having a baby means you need a bigger car". Its a Micra sized interior in a sumo wrestler bodyshell. Utterly pointless.

Still I'm sure it keeps the dent repair industry in business.

Well I for one really like the new Tiguan's - very stylish and I could see myself driving one next. - There I said it

Sat in one at the dealership a few months back and it's a really nice place to be. The SEL model is pretty well priced and complete with some really nice equipment such as the Audi TT style digital LCD dash and a full pano electric sunroof as standard.

I agree, the perception is it's a bigger car so it must be roomier. It's mostly about the high up driving position and it being easier to get in and out of.

I don't think anyone was being snooty towards the Tiguan, it's a great looking VW based on a Golf platform.
HFO posted up for discussion the fact the R version would also have the Golf's 300 (soon to be 310) PS version rather than a bigger or at least higher torque output engine.

The only problem with the new Tiguan is the cost.
