mk1 misfire

87 mk1 gti, 1.8 8v.
just replaced the fuel pump and cleaned out the lines, and all was good.

on the first run the engine would stall if you braked sharply, but that seems to have stoped now, but last night i went for a long drive and on the way out it was all stuttery and felt and sounded like it was misfiring between 2500 and 4000rpm

on the way back it was worse and was stuttering right throughout the rev range. i've done the plugs, dizzy cap and rotor arm recently, anything else i should be checking?

What was wrong with your old pump? And did you notice if there was any crud in the inlet strainer to the pump? What condition is your fuel filler neck in?

Basically I'm wondering if you have crud in your fuel tank. Although you've cleaned all your fuel lines out you may find they are contaminated again if you didn't clean the tank out.
