^ I wouldn't go that far on the servicing Chris - to me Durham Pulman were crap with the ACC and other early issues I had with my R, The Sunderland branch were a lot better.

But then again, it was the Sunderland branch that left the transport pucks in on my GTD.

On the other hand, Lookers Audi have recently damaged the wife's A1 (they denied doing it) in fitting a replacement door seal (and made a poor job of it twice), Benfield Silverlink put multiple chips on the paint of my GTD's front wing when it was in for its service and crudely splodged touch up pen paint onto the chips, and Benfield Scotswood Road saw my new GTD in for new shocks and then go missing when I was told to pick it up, only to find when it turned up later that it had been on a 28 mile joyride on someone's lunch break that yielded 20mpg - they must have thrashed the living daylights out of it. And then there's the catastrophically poor repair they did on my MK5 Golf in 2007.

On that score, Sunderland Pulman were the least sh!te (it was a mistake other people had happen to theirs all around the country).

When buying, don't make it too personal, go where the deal is best - when there's money at stake and the salesman isn't your best mate, buy at the cheapest place and get services/warranty work done where they'll waste the least amount of your time getting the job done right and will look after your car while doing it.

Maybe they've changed their ways on the selling front but Benfield (now Lookers) always used to offer crap p/x and lower discounts vs Pulman, with the Scotswood Road branch being open to bigger discounts than Silverlink.

You know what the brokers are offering, your "cost to change" will hinge on you getting the best p/x price possible.

Chris, have you got an acceptable figure in mind for your p/x?

Acceptable or achievable   I know what it's worth but getting that's a different ball game.

Acceptable it is - you don't get a top end p/x and a top level of discount, as long as the cost to change is reasonable. I'm used to seeing a local dealership get within £500 of the broker price on the new one and giving at least that much more in p/x than the broker dealership.
